Need a holiday gift or stocking stuffer?
The Coffee Shop has easy to use punch cards available for you to purchase for a SHS student, friend, family member, or staff member. The $10.00 punch card provides $12.00 worth of beverages and is kept at the Coffee Shop for quick and easy payment!
Punch cards can be purchased and picked up at the Coffee Shop or will be mailed to you if purchased online and an email of your order, student first and last name, and mailing address sent to Linda.Chapman@cheroleek12.net. Please place orders by Friday, Dec. 13 to allow time for us to mail the punch card to you.

You may drop your donations in the boxes found at the Office Area at East and Main, as well as in room 2129 (biology lab).
This recycling drive will start on Monday, 11/18 and last thru Friday, 12/13.
What you CAN donate? Nike will accept gently worn or worn Nike athletic footwear, athletic tops or bottoms.
What can you can NOT donate? We cannot accept sandals, dress shoes, boots, or any shoes with metal (like cleats or spikes). We do not accept socks or underwear.
ORATORICAL
The American Legion High School Oratorical Scholarship Program is to develop a deeper knowledge and
appreciation of the US Constitution. Participants also grow in leadership ability, their ability to think and speak
clearly and intelligently, and understanding of the rights, responsibilities, obligations, and privileges of U.S citizens.
It is open to all high school students in grades 9 through 12 who are citizens of or lawful permanent residents of the
United States. The 8-10 minutes prepared oration must be the original effort of each contestant. You can win a
scholarship for each round starting at the local level up to the national level with first place being awarded $25,000.

GIRLS STATE
Valdosta State University, Valdosta, GA
June 8-13 2025 (perhaps)
American Legion Girls State is a unique summertime educational program for students that have completed their
junior year of high school. It focuses on participation and personal experience in a model state, complete with
governmental bodies and elected public officials. It is designed to mirror the structure and operation of its
respective state government while providing training in practical citizenship, leadership and character development
through a non-partisan perspective. American Legion Post 316 sponsors the girls. Participants attend a 6-day
program where they stay at the university’s campus. For more information go to www.georgiagirlsstate.org. The
American Legion Post 316 must conduct interviews prior to making application (the website indicates it will only
take online applications, but Post 316 must interview candidates and will pay the tuition for accepted candidates).
Applications must be received by Post 316 by April 15, 2025.
BOYS STATE

American Legion Boys State is a unique summertime educational program for students that have completed their
junior year of high school. It focuses on participation and personal experience in a model state, complete with
governmental bodies and elected public officials. It is designed to mirror the structure and operation of its
respective state government while providing training in practical citizenship, leadership and character development
through a non-partisan perspective. Participants attend a 7-day program where they stay at the university’s
campus. For more information go to www.dogboysstate.org. American Legion Post 316 sponsors the candidates and
pays the tuition for accepted candidates. Interviews must take place prior to applying for Boys State which must be
received by Post 316 by April 15,2025.
Parking Applications will be accepted for Sophomores who have their Class D license beginning Monday, 11/4. The cost is $100. Applications with copies of all required paperwork should be turned into room 2202 before school or between classes only. Stickers will be ready for distribution during the first 15 minutes of each lunch period on Thursday, 11/7. Parking spaces are limited and are on a first come basis. When all spots are filled, student applications will go on a waiting list. Please note that all student debt must be cleared before a parking sticker is issued. (click picture for application)
The Media Center is open before school at 7:45 to study, use a computer, print, and read before the school day starts. Students are able to check out up to four books at a time. Passes from the cafeteria to the MC have begun. These passes will enable a limited number of students to come to the MC for the second half of lunch! The MC closes at 3:45. Mrs. Franchini and Mrs. Judkins are there to help!

The Georgia Department of Education recognizes and honors high school seniors who excel in school and their communities as Georgia Scholars. Each Georgia Scholar receives an honoree seal for their diploma. Georgia Scholar is a recognition-only program. No scholarship funds are associated with this program. March 1st deadline.
