Manitou Springs High School
Mustang News - April 26, 2024
From The Principal
We have had an incredible week at MSHS! Our performing arts students have hosted multiple wonderful performances including both our spring play as well as our dance performance! We’d also like to thank our Environmental Club students and Gabrielle Waters for planning a great week of spirit days and activities honoring Earth Day, including a fair with booths ranging from plant starters to thrifting to face painting!
Seniors have two weeks left and 9th-11th graders only have one month remaining! Thank you in advance for your partnership in supporting students finishing strong by prioritizing attendance and communicating proactively with staff.
Looking to the end of the year, we would like to invite all seniors to participate in the Graduation Walks at both MSES and UPES on Tuesday, 5/14 from 8-10 am. This is a really meaningful opportunity for our high school seniors to celebrate their own growth as well as inspire our younger students! If you are interested in participating, please sign up in the MSHS Front Office by end of day Friday, 5/3.
We are looking forward to a fantastic prom tonight at Craftwood Inn! Thank you to the numerous students and staff who have invested many hours in making this a joyous, memorable, and safe evening.
Have an awesome weekend!

A Word From The Counselors
Counselors pulled any 11th grade student who indicated they wished to attend a 4 year college in last week's lesson into the Media Center Wednesday to dive a bit more into Naviance. A reminder, Naviance is the ONLY way students can request letters of recommendation and transcripts from MSHS to be sent to post-secondary institutions. We walked them through how to FAVORITE "colleges I am thinking about" to add into their portal so when they return in August they can easily add them into the "colleges I am applying to" if they decide to apply. Students can add as many schools as they want into Naviance as they explore options to their final top choices.
We encourage you to ask your Junior which colleges they chose to "favorite" at this time. We also encourage parents/guardians to review the post-secondary goals that your student has written. Simply ask your student to login to their portal from home: https://student.naviance.com/manitoushs. Counselors will return to classrooms in the Fall to remind students of these critical steps in case they missed the lesson or change their pathway. Juniors were also encouraged to begin thinking of who can be a good recommender should they be required to submit letters of recommendation to potential institutions. "Brag Sheets" can also be found here: https://msh.mssd14.org/departments/counseling_corner which can be presented to potential recommenders AFTER having a face to face conversation first. Only when students return in August can they officially move colleges to their application list and officially request LOR via Naviance. Please reach out to your students counselor if you have questions.

MSHS Parking Lot Issues
It has come to our attention that we are having a few issues in the parking lot at MSHS during pickup times. Some of the issues are:
Parents are still doing U-Turns in front of the buses when we are trying to leave for the afternoon routes when leaving the HIgh School.
Parents, Students and Staff still turn left when leaving the High School which in turn blocks the out for the buses due to the signs stating “Right Turn Only” between 3pm and 3:30pm.
Students do not let the buses in as they are leaving ( the spot by the bleachers where the buses come around)
Please help our buses leave the parking lot in a timely and safe manner and abide by the rules.
