Screenagers
Our community has engaged in a thoughtful book study of The Anxious Generation, which explores the impact of digital media, cell phones and technology on our children. Building on this important conversation, the Kiwanis Club of Slinger has offered to support a special screening of the newly released documentary Screenagers: Elementary School Edition. The film is one hour and will be followed buy a panel discussion with local experts, offering insights and strategies for addressing this growing issue among our youth. Tickets are free but you must RSVP here.
SMS Wrestling and Boys Basketball
Boys Basketball will start October 28 and Wrestling will start November 4th. Please get your physical forms and materials in before the first practice. If you have any questions on what your child needs to participate...please contact Mrs. Lastovich

Character Strong
One of our school's goals is to prepare young people for the realities of today’s world. To support this, we have partnered with CharacterStrong, an organization that provides training for educators and curricula for students. Their work focuses on three main outcomes: fostering a sense of belonging for all students, improving skills that support student well-being, and enhancing student engagement in academics, school, and the community.
Students will participate in these lessons on select Wednesdays throughout the year during their GRIT time. We will share upcoming lessons with families so you can engage in conversations about these characteristics with your child.
This week, students were introduced to the "CharacterDare Challenge," which encourages them to actively practice and build skills like kindness, patience, and respect. For example, this week’s school-wide CharacterDare is: “At some point this week, introduce one person you know to another person they don’t know.” Each new session will introduce a new CharacterDare.
Attached are descriptions of the upcoming lessons. If you have any questions about CharacterStrong, please email kelly.pokrzywa@slingerschools.org or kylie.carbol@slingerschools.org.
