Principal's Message
Dear STARS Academy Families,
March will be packed with school activities and events! Read on to make sure you don't miss out.
March 3-7: The Conejo Valley Unified School District celebrates Read Across America Week. This national, weeklong event promotes the benefits of reading as well as the importance of adult involvement in the education of our community’s students. See the flyer at the end of this newsletter to see how Ladera will participate in this week-long event!
March 7: Friday Morning Gathering - Come watch as the 4th graders tell us all about important women throughout history.
March 13th: Decades Dress Day - Scholars can dress from their favorite decade! Attire must be school appropriate.
March 14th: Comet Chase Lap-a-Thon - come cheer your scholar on as they run laps in support of our school. We are halfway to our goal of 47,000 with 28 days left! Please continue your efforts to fundraise for our specialist programs! Click here to see our progress.
March 28th: Multicultural Night - Ladera is a beautifully diverse school! Join us on the 28th for food, music, and dance from the cultures found right here in our little school. Please see the flyer below for contact information if you are interested in bringing a dish to share, volunteering, or performing something special from your culture.
All Month Long: Women's History Month & Disabilities Awareness Month
Each year, National Women’s History Month offers an opportunity to honor the contributions women have made to our nation and society. CVUSD is proud to recognize the accomplishments of women all year through and especially this March. The 2025 National Women's History Month theme is "Moving Forward Together! Women Educating & Inspiring Generations."
Disability History Month is a time to celebrate the achievements of individuals with disabilities, advocate for their rights, and promote understanding and inclusivity within society. This monthlong recognition serves as a reminder that every student has the right to be respected, valued, and provided with opportunities to succeed.

Parking Lot Safety
Your help is needed to make our parking lot efficient and safe. Remember:
- no parking along the red curb
- NO LEFT TURN when exiting the parking lot. This causes a traffic jam in the lot and disrupts traffic flow
- do not get out of your vehicle, have your child ready to exit the car, with their backpack, closest to the curb. Scholars should be dressed and ready to exit. If they are not, please park on the street and get your scholar ready.
- if your scholar needs assistance getting to class, please park on the street and walk them inside

Help Blaze and Ember Visit Your Child’s Class!
Each week, one lucky class will have the opportunity to host Blaze and Ember, our friendly Attendance Dragons, as a reward for the highest attendance. We encourage you to make every effort to ensure your child arrives at school on time each day. Together, we can help Blaze and Ember visit as many classrooms as possible, celebrating the benefits of being present and engaged in learning!
Let’s work together to make sure your child’s class is on top and earns this fun reward!
Thank you for your support in making this initiative a success!

YOUR NAME HERE!
Did you know that STARS Academy has a new sponsorship program that allows for your family name to be displayed on our fence? Have your name printed inside of a heart (see image) and display it proudly for everyone to see the support you provide to our school. Check out the link below!
Do you have extra uniform polos that your scholar has outgrown?
Please bring them to the main office to donate! We have many uses for them, including donating to scholars who need a little extra help with acquiring a uniform!

Be On Time!
Our goal is to have 95% positive school attendance and continue to improve each month. This also means getting to school on time and teaching our students to be on time and ready to learn. If you need to report an absence please call the Attendance Line: (805) 241-1065 or email Joanne Vermaak @ jvermaak@conejousd.org. Families have 3 school days to clear absences or else your child will be considered "truant". Also, if you plan to be out of town for 3 or more days, please let our office know.
Please CALL...

An automated call is generated, if we have not received a call (and unfortunately, sometimes even if we have). Thank you for your support.
