Senior Class Quote
“Let us make our future now, and let us make our dreams tomorrow’s reality.”- Malala Yousafzai
Seniors, keep in mind the importance of attending school your senior year! We understand the excitement around senior skip days, but please remember that skipping school can have negative consequences like missing important information in class, potential disciplinary action, and even impacting your grades. ATTENTION SENIORS!
Seniors, watch for scholarship scams! Never pay to apply for a scholarship. If a company promises you a scholarship or grant in exchange for a “processing cost,” “redemption fee,” or other upfront payment, walk away.
Signs of a Scholarship or Financial Aid Scam
Not sure if an offer is a scam? Here’s how to tell. If someone advertises an offer with any of these phrases, or a variation, it’s a scam.
- Scammers say: “The scholarship is guaranteed or your money back.”
- Scammers say: “You can’t get this information anywhere else.”
- Scammers say: “I just need your credit card or bank account number to hold this scholarship.”
- Scammers say: “We'll do all the work. You just pay a processing fee.”
- Scammers say: “The scholarship will cost some money.”
- Scammers say: “You're a finalist [for a contest you never entered].”
Also, keep in mind if Papillion La Vista High School nominates you for a scholarship or award of any type, we will contact you! Companies looking to sell you a service or product will often tell you that you have been nominated by someone at our school. If you ever have a questions about something like this, see your counselor or Mrs. Bradley. They will be happy to look it over with you to determine if it is legitimate.

SENIOR TIPS FOR COLLEGE
November is a time for eating turkey and celebrating the holidays with family and friends. It is also a time to start paying attention to your upcoming college and scholarship deadlines!
Here is a November check list to help you keep on track!
- Stay on top of your college admissions to-do lists. This may mean that you have to monitor/manage multiple portals. (UNL's MyRed, UNO's Mavlink, etc.) Be sure to keep track of your login credentials.
- Watch your early admission deadlines. Many of these fall between now and December 1.
- If you have applied to college, you will want to email Mrs. Bradley and have her send your official transcripts to the institutions you have applied to.
- It is NOT too late to retake the ACT if you would like to raise your score. November 8 is the last day to register for the December 14 ACT without a late fee.
- Finalize your college list. Use the information you have gathered to create a list of five to eight colleges. Once you have decided on your list, go over that list with your counselors, teachers, and parents/guardians.
- Keep track of those deadlines. November and December are big months for scholarship deadlines.
- Start thinking about FAFSA. If you have not created your FAFSA ID, now is a good time to do this. FAFSA will open in early December!
- Stay on track with your grades! Colleges will continue to look at what you have done your senior year.
- Continue your search for scholarship. Your Senior Bulletin is a useful tool to help you with this. Local scholarships such as the Midlands Place Scholarship and PTO Scholarship are great opportunities for you.
