COMPRESSION SHORTS/LEGGINGS UNDER UNIFORM
It is hard to believe that in just a couple weeks we will be fitting new members for uniforms. There is one garment that you will need to purchase on your own- Compression Shorts or Leggings. Please understand that you will be changing into your uniform in an open area, so your undergarment must be appropriate. Due to the design of our uniform and how it is form fitting, we will be use compression shorts/leggings under the uniform.
Since there are so many varieties (material and style) and prices of this product, I did not want to have this something that we purchase on your behalf. These will need to be at least 9 inches in length (no short shorts). Please let me know if you have any questions….but please do not ask me fashion advice. I don’t care what color either. YOU WILL NEED TO WEAR THESE ON YOUR UNIFORM FITTING DAY (below).

INSTRUMENT UPGRADES
We highly recommend that students have appropriate instruments for high school music and beyond. Beginner instruments are made to be affordable and as an inexpensive introduction to the instrument. As student musicians mature, tone quality and facility around the instrument becomes increasingly more important. A beginner instrument will always sound inferior to a pro-line instrument. In addition, the pro-line instruments are easier to play and thus we find that students practice more, increasing their proficiency and enjoyment. An upgraded instrument is not a requirement for the Symphonic Bands; however, it is a necessity in the Wind Ensemble and Wind Symphony.
Below are our recommended instruments. This list is a result of testing and studying different instruments and taking into consideration tonality, facility, maintenance, repair, and cost. Just like you are an expert in your job, we are experts in this field.
- Flute –Yamaha models 585H(minimum), 687H, 787H, Miyazawa 958
- Clarinet – Buffet R-13
- Alto Saxophone – Selmer SA-80 Series 2/ Yamaha YAS-875EX Custom Series Alto
- Trumpet – Bach Stradivarius LT180S37, Yamaha Xeno
- Trombone – Bach 42BO, Bach 42 T
Always consult a director prior to any purchase. Remember, many music stores will only repair instruments that they themselves sell. Beware of instruments sold from stores not specializing in the sale or rental of instruments.
If you are looking to purchase an instrument that the school currently provides (oboe, bass clarinet, bassoon, tenor sax, bari sax, French horn, euphonium, or tuba), please consult with Mr. Dixon, Mr. Schroeder, or Mr. Lisko prior to your purpose.
Both Music and Arts, Williamson Music First and Tarpley Music have excellent deals towards the end of the year to “upgrade your sound”. When purchasing a pro-line instrument, it is important that you try multiple instruments of the same model. These are hand made and there might be some minor differences that lead you to purchase one over the other.
KEEP YOUR OLDER/BEGINNER INSTRUMENT FOR MARCHING BAND!
