Deaf Awareness Month - Did you know...??
Did you know that ASL is a language all of its own? ASL is not English in sign form. ASL, like any other language, has its own grammatical structure and lexicon that is different from spoken English, and employs the dynamics use of signs, finger spelling, facial expressions, and body movement to convey meaning.

PFO Corner- HELP NEEDED!
We are still looking for classroom Room Reps for a number of classes. The Room Rep acts as a liaison between the PFO and the parents of students in the class. Their role involves communicating PFO events and activities to parents, gathering feedback and concerns from parents to share with the PFO and working with our Volunteer Coordinators to ensure we’re able to provide these special Dewey Events. The Room Rep is a vital role at Dewey but it does not require a huge time commitment. While we would love to have you at our monthly meetings, it is not required. Our Room Rep Coordinators will often draft messages for you to send to your class and our Volunteer Coordinators help manage the volunteer needs. The PFO appreciates your help and partnership!
Please visit deweypfo.com for more information about ways to get involved, our PFO executive board and committee chairs, and an online store for Dewey merchandise!
We are excited to welcome students back to the library this week. Students in 1st-6th grades will be coming home with library permission slips. Please review the community resources expectations with your child. As soon as the permission slips have been signed and returned, your student may begin checking out library books for the new school year.

It’s back! This year, half of the school will come weekly for the first half of the year, then the other half of the school will come weekly the 2nd half of the year. Don’t worry if your child doesn’t start next week- everyone will have equal opportunity to DESIGN, BUILD, and CREATE in the Maker Lab.
The Maker Lab runs on your donations. There is a box for all donations in the office hallway. All cardboard tubes, craft supplies, duct tape, etc. are appreciated. Don’t keep google eyes around your house, but you still want to give? There is an Amazon Wish List: Dewey Maker Lab Wish List
Right now, the Maker Lab is needing your Hex Bugs that are no longer being played with. Give the bugs a second life, give them to the Maker Lab.
