In honor of Veterans Day, Mrs. Wales's classes worked on a collaborative Veterans Day project. The classes enjoyed seeing their creative work come together. Each class colored portions of the project, and then put them all together at the end to create a unique portrait of a veteran.

On December 1st, Mr. Hatfield will be taking a group of students to tour various facilities at Oregon State University. Some of these facilities include the Veterinary School, Wave Lab, and Engineering buildings. Students should dress for walking around campus, rain or shine. The group will purchase lunch near the campus but students may want to bring water and snacks for the drive. If your student is interested in this opportunity they can pick up a permission slip from Mr. Hatfield.

On November 16th, students have the opportunity to travel to a Coos County Salmon Hatchery to participate in a spawning activity. Afterward, the students will travel to a nearby stream to look for spawning fish. Students must dress for wet, dirty, and cold work and bring a sack lunch. If you are interested in signing your student up, permission slips can be picked up from Mr. Hatfield.

Class Can Drive- Students we are holding a class can drive now through Tuesday, November 22nd. The class with the most donated items will get to leave for lunch 10 minutes early. All items will be donated to the E.A.T. program. Boxes are located across from the office for donated items.

Last Friday, Mrs. Radcliffe had her staff break up into groups and were assigned a different area in BHS to do a walk around and envision how the building could be improved to make it a more inspiring and enjoyable learning place. They also spent time going through a PowerPoint on Renewing Ourselves and BHS Through Our Stories.

Our Bandon High School local chapter of National Honor Society had the opportunity to give back to our community through a Veteran's support project on Thursday, November 10th. Students volunteered their time to help with inventory projects preparing for upcoming Veteran's Day events as well as handing out poppies at several locations within the community.

Bandon fall sports wrapped up this last week with the cross country and football teams all qualifying for the OSAA State Playoffs while the volleyball team fell just short of qualifying. The boys' cross country team was the district champion and finished 5th in the state for the 1A/2A classification, while the girls were second in districts and 7th in the state for the 1A/2A/3A classification.

The football team ended up 3rd in their district and went on the road to Regis for a rainy and muddy playoff game. The Tigers would eventually fall 14-2 which ended their season with a record of 5-4.

Our playoff round 1 game against Regis St. Mary's was a wild football game, definitely one to remember. There is no football like playoff football, especially when it is played in the mud. It was great to see our fans and community make the 4-hour drive to come and support us in the nasty weather. It was cold, in the low 40's, dumping rain, and very windy. We were evenly matched with Regis and the game was close throughout the night. Offensively we made too many mistakes, turning the ball over and having penalties at important moments in the game. We seemed to take 2 steps forward, then take 4 steps back all night. Defensively we battled hard and played very well, The weather seemed to have an effect on our ability to execute and we could never really get any steady momentum. We ended up losing a close football game, 2 to 14. Our Seniors walked away from the game playing one of the muddiest football games they have ever been involved in and making the state playoffs every year of their high school football careers. We celebrate our 5 Seniors and the leadership they have provided for us, they will certainly be missed. We had a good season as a team, and are proud of what these young men have accomplished. They have come a long way in the past few months and were playing some really good football at the end of the season. As a program we are excited for the future and the players we have returning next season, hopefully, they can continue down the path our Seniors have laid out for them, and we can continue to be successful. We thank the community, the school district, and our football families for supporting us. GO TIGERS!!!

Yearbooks- Order early to receive a discount. If purchased by December 16th, $20.00, January 4th - March 17th, $30 orders after March 17th will be $40. Yearbooks will be delivered in June 2023, before the school year lets out. Please see Ms. Pearson for an order form.

Our leadership class is currently holding a "Hostage Fundraiser". Students can donate money each period, and if a classroom gets $50 by the 18th, then that teacher will be "held hostage", and students will not have lessons during that period. All proceeds go towards reducing the costs of yearbooks.

7th & 8th Grade Boys Basketball – Open Gyms on Sundays.

Please have your students turn in any McKay's receipts to their 1st period teacher. McKay's gives us a portion of the receipt totals back in cash, which goes towards purchasing Library books and supplies. There will be a friendly competition between grades to see which class can collect the most receipts. We will be collecting them until January 6th.

All of our students should have recently signed a behavior agreement form that acknowledges that they have reviewed the student handbook, and know what the behavior expectations are at HLMS. We would appreciate it if you could take a moment to review the student hand book (link below) as well.

Just a reminder, students are not allowed to have cell phones out during school hours. We require them to be kept off and in their locker or backpack during the day. This includes breaks and at lunch. Please encourage your student to come to the office or their teachers if they have a concern or need help instead of reaching out to you via cell phone during the day. This way we can help make sure that all your student's needs are being met. We have a student phone available in the commons that is always available.

Our goal was to raise $15,000 towards our TREK for TECH. Our students ran a total of 1,793 laps and pledged over $17,000!

If you have not turned in your money pledged, please do so as soon as possible.

Thanksgiving Meals AND "Holiday with a Hero" Christmas Gift Give Away Each year the Bandon Police Department purchases gifts for children in our community FREE of charge.

This gift of generosity is intended to support our local families who may be struggling to make ends meet during the holiday season.

Gifts are delivered by the Police department to your home along with a food basket before Christmas.

This year, they are also providing food baskets for Thanksgiving. This is a voluntary program and by signing up, you are giving consent to the Bandon Police Department to provide food baskets for your family for Thanksgiving and Christmas, as well as purchase gifts for your child(ren) for Christmas and deliver them to your home.

Please ONLY sign up if you wish to participate. Resources are limited and all families may not be able to be served in this way.
