Almost There...!
This week we saw the near completion of our new front playground. We eagerly anticipate announcing it's official opening, soon!
Hello Hansen Families,
As we close out our last full week of September, it's amazing to realize that we've now been in school for a month! This week's Hansen Weekly Update has a reminder on Mandatory parent forms that are due, openings in our after school activities, and more! Please make sure you've filled out mandatory parent forms by Monday, and encourage your student to consider some after school programs we offer, if possible.
As a reminder, there is no school on Rosh Hashanah, this Thursday, October 3rd.
Hispanic Heritage Month:
September 15th to October 15 is Hispanic Heritage Month. This month celebrates the anniversary of independence for five Latin American countries: – Guatemala, Nicaragua, Honduras, Costa Rica, and El Salvador. The Importance of Being on Time to School
Parents, we're starting to notice a concerning trend of student tardiness in the morning at arrival time. The importance of helping students value being on time is reflected in many areas. Being on time to school every day can help students develop the habit of being punctual, illustrates to them your commitment to their learning and social connections in school, and helps reduce classroom interruptions and distractions for all students. Missing just 15 minutes of school twice a week equates to 3 missed school days per year!
Also, students arriving to school with time to spare have the benefit of morning recess time, greeting their teachers and classmates, getting organized for their school day, and focusing their minds on the lessons to come. Students arriving late miss out on these benefits, and chronic tardiness may cause students to struggle with learning and feeling a full part of their classroom community.
However, arriving late to school on a consistent basis results in students starting their day under stress, can lead to confusion with their academic lessons, and eventually have longer-term academic effects. Ultimately, we want to help students build life-long habits for success for their future in school, college and the world of work.
Mr. McKnight and Ms. Fahey will look to schedule meetings with families of students who have been tardy multiple times, beginning in October. Please help your student(s) benefit from daily on-time arrival to school, so that they have the best school year possible!
Thank you!

Traffic Reminders
Parents, we realize our parking spaces are limited for afternoon pick-up, but we all have to prioritize safety first. Parking across the street from our school, playground and baseball field, leads to some extremely dangerous scenarios for your child, yourself, and traffic on Pecunit Street.
Please only park on the Hansen School property side-of-the street, starting after our exit driveway, heading down toward the Galvin Middle School. This will keep everyone as safe as possible during a very busy traffic time of day for us.
Thank you!
Bus Safety
If your child rides the bus, please remind them that they are expected to behave in a safe manner at all times on the bus. Standing up, yelling, throwing objects or engaging in verbally or physically unsafe or inappropriate behaviors will not be tolerated. Students who don't meet those expectations will be removed from the bus to ensure our bus drivers can safely transport students to and from school.
Thank you in advance for helping us ensure everyone riding the bus is safe this year!
