Community Letter
October 1, 2021
Hello October!
It's hard to believe that the first month of school is over and it is already October! We hope you are staying dry and cozy.
The LIPTSA is planning a pumpkin carving event at the end of the month, so get psyched and stay tuned for details on that. Your students can start planning their carving designs!
As we wrap up our month of focus on the character habit of belonging, we want to share the Belonging Pledge created collaboratively by Becca Hamilton's 5th grade class.
We, the 5th grade class at Lopez Island Elementary, pledge to help all kids feel like they belong and are valued in our school community.
We will do this by:
- Respecting all people
- Inviting classmates and making them feel wanted
- Showing genuine kindness through actions and words (helping and complimenting)
- Sharing
- Actively listening to what people say
Our school wide habit of character for the month of October is ownership. In school, ownership means that a learner is motivated, engaged, and self-directed. Students who own their own learning are able to monitor their progress and reflect on their growth, mastery of content, and both successes and challenges. Ownership in the social emotional realm means that students own their own behavior choices and develop an awareness of how they are showing up in their relationships with peers.
Our very best to you and your family,
Mary and Martha, Elementary and Secondary Principals
Next Week's Menu
Volunteers Needed
The elementary school is looking for volunteers to help provide support during recess and lunch. Volunteers would assist a school employee in the supervisory role. The volunteers would just help provide more eyes and ears at recess and support the flow of the lunch room procedure. If you are able to help one or more days a week or for just one of these times one day a week, we would be so appreciative.
Recess/Lunch Schedule - Volunteer Needs
Recess (all elem.) 8:15-8:30
Recess A (K & 1st) 10:15-10:35
