Eagle Pride: Video by Dr. Patterson
July 28, 2019
Happy Sunday Eagles!
Thank you to our students, staff, and parents for working to make the first two weeks of school awesome! Our first PBIS Celebration is planned for August 9, Water World! Our PBIS Committee has been working to put together tons of fun!! Please encourage your students to follow our positive behavior expectations (see the bottom of the newsletter), earn 100 DoJo points, and avoid think sheets and office referrals. Our goal is for 100% of students to attend.
Fall pictures are scheduled for Monday, August 5. Students are required to wear uniforms for fall pictures. Students will have the opportunity to wear clothes of choice for spring pictures.
Go ahead and mark your calendars for Open House and Report Card Pick-Up on Thursday, October 10, 5:00-6:00pm. Report cards will be available for pick-up, and you are welcome to visit classrooms and have brief meetings with teachers. Teachers will be scheduling conferences with all parents during the first quarter.
Third Grade Beginning-of-Grade Reading Test
All third graders will take the Beginning-of-Grade Reading Test on Tuesday, July 30. This test covers the third grade reading curriculum students should master by the end of the year. This test is required by the state of North Carolina as a pre-test to establish what students know at the beginning of the year and measure growth during their third grade year. Student mastery is measured by the Beginning-of-Grade Test, formative reading assessments throughout the year, and the End-of-Grade Test. Students will have multiple opportunities throughout the year to demonstrate mastery for Read to Achieve. If you have additional questions about Read to Achieve, please contact your child's teacher or Dr. Patterson.
International Baccalaureate
Clyde Erwin Elementary Magnet School is the only International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme in North Carolina east of I-95. Onslow County Schools also offers the Middle Years Programme at Northwoods Park Middle School and the Diploma Programme at Jacksonville High School.
Students at International Baccalaureate (IB) World Schools are given a unique education. They will:
- be encouraged to think and drive their own learning.
- take part in programmes of education that can lead them to some of the highest ranking universities around the world.
- become more culturally aware through the development of a second language.
- be able to engage with people in an increasingly globalized, rapidly changing world.
We will be providing information about your student's learning and critical thinking throughout the year.To learn more about IB, visit https://www.ibo.org

Student Attendance
During the first couple of weeks of school, we have had an average of over 20 tardies a day and multiple early check-outs. We encourage you to think about the importance of student attendance. Every minute of instruction counts for students to be successful. Tardies and early check-outs impact student outcomes as much as absences. Please consider the following:
