Organic Life
**Nutritional Thoughts from Organic Life**
Nutrition plays a key role in helping students stay focused in the classroom. A healthy diet supplies students with the nutrients that support concentration, cognitive function, and energy. Research has found that this connection leads to stronger academic performance, higher attendance, and fewer behavioral issues.
News From The Nurse
Notes from the Health Office
Cold and flu season in upon us! In the past few weeks, we have been seeing an increased
number of students with fevers, gastro-intestinal symptoms, and cold-like symptoms. These
symptoms are being reported in the surrounding community.
Preventive measures are the most effective way to reduce the spread of influenza. To decide
whether to send our child to school, please consider the following guidelines:
Consider keeping your child at home for an extra day of rest and observation with any of the
following symptoms:
Very stuffy or runny nose and/or persistent cough
Sore throat (no fever, no known exposure to strep)
Headache
Stomachache
Nasal congestion with frequent blowing of nose
Keep your child home for observation and treatment with any of the following symptoms:
Fever in the past 24 hours (greater than 100 degrees)
Vomiting in the past 24 hours (even once)
Diarrhea in the past 24 hours (even once)
Persistent productive cough
Unexplained rash, sore or pink eyes with discharge
To help prevent the spread of illnesses, teach your children good hygiene habits:
Wash hand frequently
Do not touch eyes, nose, or mouth
Cover mouth and nose when sneezing/coughing, use paper tissue, throw it away and wash
hands.
Avoid close contact with people who are ill
Students returning to school after an absence need to be fever free for the past 24 hours
without taking medication to keep fever down in 24 hours.
If a bacterial infection has been diagnosed, your child MUST have 24 hours of antibiotics
before returning to school.
If you are not sure about sending your student to school in the morning, feel free to reach out
the nurse to discuss via email or phone. Thank you for helping us keep our students and staff
