The Renton High School
Weekly Update 10.18.2024
Happy Friday, RedHawkS,
I hope you are well and ready for the weekend. We had a fantastic week at Renton High School, marked by a couple exciting events. Yesterday evening our concert band, symphonic band, orchestra and jazz band performed for the fall concert under the direction of our music teacher, Mr. Jackson Bores. The IKEA performing arts center was packed as our students shared their individual and collective talents with us. As Mr. Bores pointed out, many of our musicians have come so far in their skill development and we couldn't be prouder of the work he is doing to guide them, along with the work our students are putting in to achieve their growth. Well done RHS Music!
Secondly, earlier today I was able to join some of our students in the Teacher's Academy as they traveled up the hill to Lakeridge Elementary to engage with current 5th graders, our future RedHawkS. Our goal was to get their ideas and feedback related to the RHS rebuild project. It was exciting to see their imaginations go wild as they gave us things to think about in the design process. These 5th graders, along with other from our feeder elementary schools, will be some of the first students to walk the halls of the new RHS and we value their ideas in shaping the school they will soon be a part of. Shout out to Teacher Academy teachers Ms. Del Fiero, and Ms. Smith for your efforts to connect our students with Lakeridge students and to Lakeridge Principal Mr. Umali for welcoming and hosting us.
Please see the important information below and as always, we welcome and appreciate your feedback. Have wonderful weekend!

Disability History and Awareness Month
October is Disability History and Awareness Month and at Renton High School, we are proud of our inclusive community which recognizes and appreciates the different abilities everyone in our beloved community shares with the world. We believe strongly that everyone belongs at Renton High School, and we are constantly working to be an increasingly inclusive school community where we celebrate the gifts and talents of every individual.
Washington state Law and RSD policy 2337 rightfully require that we recognize and celebrate Disability History and Awareness Month, and we will be infusing content in our advisory classes this month to demonstrate our values. We aim to celebrate those with different abilities and the contributions they have made to our school community and in our world.
Please check out the attachment for a timeline of disability history to see how far we've come in recognizing and celebrating those with difference abilities.
