Career Exploration Opportunities
While watching the news recently, I saw a series on the impact the pandemic has had on many industries. One clip in particular caught my attention and stuck with me. It appears that the pandemic hasn't had a negative impact on the construction field. In fact, quite the opposite. The construction industry is booming, especially in the metro area. It seems that the demand is so great that there are not enough skilled construction workers to meet the needs of the field.
To help students explore the field of construction and architecture, Hillsboro School to Career is holding an academy in the first two weeks of February. All of these events are free to Sherwood High School students. Students can attend one or all of the events at no charge to them. If a student finds an event that conflicts with classes, we are able to excuse you from those classes for that day.
Please explore the opportunities. If you find one or several that interest you please register for an event by clicking here. Or register for the entire academy by clicking here.

College Information
The month of January brings the end of the college application season for most Universities and 4-year Colleges and the beginning of the waiting process for many admission decisions. We encourage you to embrace this time and take the moment to enjoy where you are. You have worked hard to get here. Please remember to take the time to thank those who have helped you reach this milestone - parents, counselors, teachers, or others who have encouraged you and supported you through the process.
If you have yet to start the college application process and are considering a Community College or Trades Program, February is the month to start the process. The Career Center will be holding workshops in the month of February to assist with the community college application process and exploring trades programs. We will be sharing more about these events as they get closer. Please keep any eye out for events that might interest you.
