Volunteer Opportunities
The Way
Raise money for your class by volunteering at The Way (a gently used clothing store located at 17 Ferry St. in Schuylerville). More information can be found below:
- Students may volunteer on Friday 3 pm - 5 pm, Saturday 9 am - 11 am, or Saturday 11 am - 1 pm
- Two to four students at a time can sign up for a 2-hr shift using Signup Genius
- Volunteer hours will be tracked at the store
- For every student who works 2 hours, The Way will donate $5 to the class they are representing
- The Way will tally up the amount and donate the money to the school once per quarter
The Dake Foundation for Children
The mission at The Dake Foundation for Children is to provide opportunities for children with disabilities to enjoy more independence, inclusion, and fun. Through the foundation, some of the things that have been granted to individuals in the past to help them interact with their family and friends are adaptive bicycles and strollers, iPads, and even a robotic eating device. If you are interested in volunteering, please visit The Dake Foundation website and click on the “Support Our Mission" link. Then fill out the brief volunteer application.
Award for Volunteer Action
Soroptimist International of Saratoga County (SISC) is now accepting applications for the 2023-2024 Young Women Making a Difference Award which honors young women between the ages of 14 and 18 for their volunteer activity. Pre-College Programs
Georgetown University Pre-College Online Program
- This online pre-college program helps students ages 13+ explore their interests in a variety of areas. Available subjects include: anatomy and physiology, business and marketing, journalism and media, law, leadership, medicine and surgery, nursing, government, psychology, STEM and much more. Further information can be found here.
- Courses are designed for high school students ages 13 and older who would like to explore various subject areas before college. These courses feature engaging videos by Rochester faculty and access to mentors. The program is available year-round and the online format allows for students to study anywhere, anytime, and at any pace. More information can be found here.
Carnegie Mellon University: Pre-College Programs
- Carnegie Mellon offers students unique and hands-on educational programs from the fine arts to technology and everything in between. Through these programs, rising juniors and seniors are provided with the opportunity to experience a world-class education on a beautiful, vibrant college campus. The programs also prepare students for the upcoming college experience, help them narrow their career focus, and build critical knowledge and skills. Please find more information here.
Oxbridge Academic Programs
- Summer programs in Oxford, Cambridge, Paris, Barcelona, and New York are designed to provide students with the opportunity to challenge themselves intellectually while being immersed in new cultures. Programs are offered in various locations and interested students have the opportunity to apply for scholarships based on financial need and academic merit. Please find more information here.
- Students ages 13 years and older can explore their interests through a variety of online programs. These programs range from neuroscience and medicine to computer science to social entrepreneurship. Students are able to learn at their own pace through videos. More information can be found here.
- Students 14-18 years of age will have an opportunity to learn new skills, get hands-on experience, and produce content for their scholastic portfolio or pursue a career in photography, filmmaking or book arts & design. There will be a virtual open house on December 13th at 7 pm. More information can be found here.
Senior Information
Scholarships
The Amazon Future Engineer Scholarship / Internship Program: this program will provide selected high school seniors with a scholarship up to $40,000 for college and internship opportunities at Amazon. Learn more information here. Deadline: December 15, 2023TCT Federal Credit Union Scholarship Program
- Visit tctfcu.org to download an application. The student will need to contact the credit union directly to obtain a credit union verification code to verify eligibility.
- Complete the application form and required essay and obtain the required transcripts, along with the signature of a parent or guardian.
- Application materials must be submitted online no later than January 5, 2024.
Saratoga's Community Federal Credit Union: eligible applicants must be planning to enroll in a two or four-year accredited institution for the first time in the fall of 2024; scholarships awarded may range from $500 to $1,500. Application can be found here. Deadline: January 5, 2024
Equitable Excellence Scholarship: eligible applicants must demonstrate ambition and self-drive to be a force for good in school, community or work activities. Application can be found here. Deadline: December 18, 2023
Operation Adopt a Soldier Scholarship: eligible applicants must be a graduating senior, have/had a service member in his/her family, and write a 300-400 word essay in response to the question: "What is your viewpoint of people who serve in the military?" The essay, Scholarship Informational Sheet, and letter of recommendation should be given to your school counselor by April 15, 2024.
National Grid Electric Worker's Scholarship: eligible applicants must self-identify as Black or African American, American Indian or Alaska Native, Hispanic or Latino, Asian, Native Hawaiian, or other Pacific Islander (any gender) OR self-identify as a female (any race/ethnicity) AND be a current high school senior, have a high school diploma or have a GED. Applicants must also plan to enroll part-time or full-time at HVCC in one of the following programs: Electrical Construction Maintenance (AOS) or Overhead Electric Line Worker Certificate. The Grishkot Foundation Scholarship: this is a renewable college scholarship of at least $2,500 per year, for up to four years for residents of Warren, Washington and Saratoga Counties pursuing a degree in Aviation, Aerospace, Nursing, Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy and other related medical support fields. Undergraduate premedical and graduate medical studies are specifically excluded. Eligible applicants should apply online. Deadline: March 2, 2024
The Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship: eligible applicants must be a graduating senior, a US citizen, present evidence of financial need, demonstrate a record of academic excellence as well as leadership potential, and plan to attend a 4-year college. - GlobalFoundries Apprenticeship Program is an excellent opportunity for a high school graduate to enter into a learning progression that upon successful completion results in a NYS Registered Apprenticeship, which opens many doors for future career pathways. The job requires a HS diploma or equivalent, and an electrical/mechanical aptitude or interest. No formal previous experience is required. Financial Aid Updates
Federal Student Aid, the agency that administers the FAFSA, has announced that the 2024-25 Free Application for Federal Student Aid, or FAFSA, will open by December 31st. This is the latest that the FAFSA is allowed to open under federal law.
Prior to completing the FAFSA, all students and any contributor(s) will need an FSA ID. Please find information here on how to create an FSA ID. Additional information on how to complete new FAFSA can be found here. Thank you to SUNY ADK for providing us with this information!

New Visions Programs
If you are interested in exploring a one year pre-college program in the field of Engineering or Health Careers Exploration, please see your counselor immediately!! The New Visions programs offer an academically rigorous program for the college bound senior. Representatives from each program will be visiting our school on January 18th at 11:30 am to share more information about these programs and help answer any questions interested students may have.
Upcoming SAT/ACT Testing Information:
The SAT and the ACT will be offered on the following (Saturday) National testing dates during the 2023-2024 school year. The cost of the SAT is $55. The ACT has a basic fee of $66.00, with an optional writing test (cost with writing is $91.00). If the cost of these tests presents a hardship, you may be eligible for a fee waiver. Please check with Mrs. Rust or Mrs. O'Brien.

Early College Career Academy at SUNY Adirondack
BOCES continues to partner with SUNY Adirondack to offer two-year early college programs to our students, starting in the junior year. Each program combines academics with exposure to the industry and cutting edge technologies. Depending on the program, students are eligible to earn up to 32 college credits prior to graduating from high school. The four programs offered through the ECCA are:
- Advanced Manufacturing
- Business & Entrepreneurship
- Information Technology / Computer Networking
- New Media

Schuylerville Dollars for Scholars® is a nonprofit foundation supporting academic success in the Schuylerville Central School District. This organization aims to help students achieve their educational goals by raising scholarship funds, establishing endowments, providing assistance with college readiness and the financial aid process, and distributing scholarships each year. Be on the lookout for various fundraising events coming up and be sure to follow the Dollars for Scholars Facebook page for important updates / information.
