Primary Update - 31st January 2025
Please see our video update from Krisha Gandhi, sharing her highlights of the week.
School Lunches
Research shows that well-nourished children concentrate better, perform higher academically, and have improved overall well-being. To support their learning, please ensure that your child has a lunch ordered for them on SchoolGrid, or that they bring a packed lunch from home.
Dolce does not offer credit facilities and asks for all SchoolGrid accounts to be kept in credit at all times. However, they can accommodate emergency situations such as damaged or forgotten packed lunches - a reminder email will be sent directly to parents where they have no funds available.
We work closely with our catering provider Dolce to ensure students are provided with healthy and nutritious meals. If you have any comments or feedback you wish to share about the food, we welcome you contacting us by emailing reception@cranbrook.education
Exeter Chiefs Women's Premiership Fixture – A Day to Remember
Despite the wet weather, ten of our pupils had an unforgettable experience thanks to Exeter Chiefs and Maddy’s Mark, who hosted a truly special day filled with rugby, inspiration, and excitement.
The pupils kicked off the day with an exclusive one-on-one training session led by a professional Exeter Chiefs coach. This hands-on experience gave them valuable insights into the game, helping them develop their skills and confidence on the field.
The highlight of the day came when our pupils had the incredible honour of leading the Exeter Chiefs Women’s team onto the pitch for their Premiership clash against Sale Sharks. Walking side by side with elite athletes in front of the roaring crowd was a moment they will cherish forever.
After their unforgettable walk-on experience, the pupils settled in to enjoy the thrilling match, cheering on the Chiefs as they battled it out against their opponents. The energy and passion displayed by the team were truly inspiring, leaving a lasting impression on our young rugby enthusiasts.
A huge thank you to Exeter Chiefs and Maddy’s Mark for making this experience possible. The day was a perfect blend of fun, learning, and inspiration, proving once again the power of sport to bring people together and create lifelong memories
Uniform
A huge thank you to the vast majority of our students who wear their uniform with pride every day. Looking smart helps create the right mindset for learning and engagement with the many opportunities available on campus.
Our PTA offer a Pre Loved Uniform service and have regular sales. Please contact them on PTA@cranbrook.education or visit their facebook group
Pupil Services are always looking for any used, outgrown uniform. If you can spare any clean uniform or ties, please bring it to the main reception anytime between 8am and 4pm. Many thanks.

Medication
We would like to remind you of the importance of ensuring that your child has their necessary medication, such as inhalers, antihistamines, or EpiPens, available at school if they have a medical condition that requires it. It is vital that we have a set of medication handed to the main office and, ideally for inhalers, another set for the classroom.
If your child has been prescribed any medication, please ensure it is brought into school as soon as possible to help ensure their safety and well-being throughout the school day.
Thank you for your cooperation and collaboration as we work together to keep our pupils safe.
Nut and Peanut Free School
We have a number of staff and students who have a severe allergic reaction to nuts and peanuts and it is important that we keep them safe. In this regard, we ask that students, staff and visitors do not bring products containing nuts and peanuts into school.
Products that should not be brought into school include:
· Peanuts and nuts and products containing peanuts or nuts
· Peanut butter and peanut based chocolate snacks (snickers / reece’s pieces, Nutella etc)
· Items where peanuts or nuts are listed as main ingredients
· Nut or peanut based oils or products
Products that are allowed:
· Items that “may contain nuts” and “may contain traces of nuts” or “made in factories that use nuts”. These present a low risk and are not direct ingredients in the products
· All other non nut-based snacks and food stuff.
FSM Eligibility
If you wish to check your child’s eligibility for Free School Meals, please use the Devon Citizens Portal This is the quickest and easiest way to apply and will result in you getting an instant decision.
Alternatively, call the Education Helpline on 0345 155 1019 who will check eligibility, answer questions and help with your application.
School Attendance and Illness
Its that time of year when there are lots of bugs being passed around. Sometimes it’s difficult to know whether your child should come to school or not. The poster below gives a bit more guidance
If you are ever unsure or would like further advice, please speak to one of our attendance team. You can contact them on attendance@cranbrook.education
Please note: We are also able to keep and administer medication in school if the correct form is filled in. Please speak to our Reception Team to arrange this
Handwashing is really important this time of year, please encourage your child to do this regularly to avoid the spread of germs.
Reporting an Absence
Absences need to be reported no later than 8.30am. To make this process as easy as possible for you, there are various ways that you can do this:
- The School Number – 01404 823293 (Please leave a message)
- Via email - attendance@cranbrook.education
- Via MCAS or the link on the website home page
For all options please state your child’s full name, class and reason for absence. If you do not contact the school your child will be given an automatic unauthorised absence, these remain on their school records.
All of the above options are checked every morning. While we are unable to reply to all messages, please rest assured they will be recorded.
Year Group Updates
Preschool Update
Reception Update
Year One Update
Year 1 have had an amazing week full of exciting learning! In English, they had lots of fun writing up their jam sandwich recipes, using clear instructions and sequencing their steps carefully. In Maths, they have been working hard to become fluent in their numbers up to 20, building confidence with counting, addition, and number patterns.
History has been particularly fascinating as they explored ancient Egyptian hieroglyphics, even having a go at writing their own names using these incredible symbols! Their enthusiasm and creativity have been wonderful to see.
This week's spellings to focus on are: Today, Of, Said, Says—keep practicing at home!
Well done, Year 1! Keep up the fantastic work!
Year Three Update
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Parents’ Evening. It was wonderful to meet with you all and discuss your child’s progress.
In English, we’ve been really impressed by the creative 'Lord of the Ocean' stories the children have been working on. Their imagination and effort have been fantastic! It’s clear they’ve enjoyed the 'Lord of the Forest' text, and we’re seeing them use similar patterns in their own writing.
This weeks spellings
calmly, exactly, deadly, bravely, boldly, gladly, deeply, clearly, hourly, quickly.
In Maths, we’ve just finished our unit on money and have now moved on to exploring statistics. Please continue to encourage your child to practise their spellings and reading at home, and don’t forget to log their reading on Boom Reader so they can earn tokens for the Read 2 Succeed challenge.
This week in PSHE, we’ve been focusing on personal space and discussing the different types of touch. The children have learned about five types of touch:
- Friendly or Loving Touch – such as a hug from a friend or safe adult.
- Care Touch – for example, when someone helps with a nappy change or cleans a scraped knee.
- Accidental Touch – when someone accidentally gets too close to another person.
- Hurtful Touch – such as bumping into someone while playing.
- Inappropriate Touch – when someone touches another person’s private parts.
We’ve made it clear that, no matter the type of touch, everyone has the right to say “no” if they feel uncomfortable. To reinforce this, we watched the NSPCC’s Pantasaurus song, which you can share with your child at home using the link below:
Year Four & Five Update
Year Six Update
Year 6 have had a fantastic week at school this week! We have been sitting practise SATs papers and the children have shown huge amounts of pride and maturity. We are so proud of them!
In History, we have continued to learn about civil rights, focussing on Martin Luther King's speech. In Science, we have been learning about impure solutions, dissolving salt/sugar into water and discussing why sand does not dissolve. In English, we have been focussing on dialogue, working hard to ensure that we are using the correct punctuation and exciting adverbs.
Have a fantastic weekend!
