Message to Parents:
Finishing the Year Strong – Just 18 Days to Go!
Dear Sun Valley Families,
It’s hard to believe we’re in our final month of school! With just 18 days left, we are entering one of the busiest and most exciting times of the year. Our calendar is packed with special events, celebrations, and important learning moments that will help us wrap up the year with purpose and pride.
As we head toward the finish line, we ask for your continued partnership in two key areas:
-
Attendance: Please make sure your child is at school each day and on time. Every moment matters, and strong attendance helps your child stay engaged and ready for success.
-
Behavior: This is also a great time to speak with your child about continuing to follow our school-wide behavior expectations. When students do not meet these expectations, it creates disruptions not only to their own learning, but also to the learning of others. With your support, we can make sure our school environment remains focused, respectful, and positive for all.
Please note: The last day of school is Thursday, May 29, 2025.
Let’s work together to make these final 18 days meaningful and memorable. Thank you for your ongoing support and for being such a valued part of the Sun Valley community.
With gratitude,
Monique Lara
Principal, Sun Valley Elementary

In order to meet our goal of 98% attendance, we cannot have more than 11 students absent. While we know and understand students get sick, which are valid reasons to miss school. We also know that students stay home because they are tired, due to family related issues that truly do not require them to stay home, vacation, etc. These are not valid reasons for your child to miss school.
Truancy measures have already started to take place which include, attendance contracts, truancy conferences, mediation, and court filings. In addition to this, any students who miss more than 10 days of school (unexcused) will be required to attend Saturday school in the Spring. Parents are required for students to attend with their child in order for them to receive credit. Students are not allowed to be dropped off without a parent/guardian. More information regarding this will be sent home.
Students who do not meet the 90% state compulsory attendance requirement AND academic standards (failing grades/state assessments) are also at risk of retention.
As a campus, we are required to improve 2% from last years ADA. Please help us meet our goal by being mindful of your child's attendance. If students are not in school, they are not learning!
ATTENDANCE RECOVERY PROGRAM
Last Saturday School Day - May 17, 2025
Our final day of Saturday school will be held May 17, 2025. Any students with 13 or more absences will be required to attend WITH a parent. Attendance recovery will take place on specific Saturdays from 8:30 am-11:30 am. Notifications have been sent out to students and their families who meet this criteria. Any students who do not attend attendance recovery Saturdays will be at risk of retention. We want all of our students to be successful, but in order to do that we NEED them at school all day everyday!
What is Perfect Attendance?
Perfect Attendance means that a student attended all day every day of the school year. To have perfect attendance second semester, the student must have perfect attendance first semester as well. The school day begins at 8:10 A.M. and ends at 3:40 P.M. Classrooms open at 7:30 A.M.

Visitor Policy
DISTRICT POLICY - You MUST bring your ID!
Visitors to campuses are required to have their picture IDs available at all times. Parents will not be allowed entry past the front offices of each campus, nor will they be allowed to meet with or sign out a student without a picture ID. In case of parent emergencies, when someone other than the parent picks up a student, that individual must be listed on the approved emergency contact list AND have a valid picture ID. Phone or text verifications will not be accepted. To ensure the safety and well-being of all students, proper identification and parent permission granted on the emergency contact list are the only ways to prevent unauthorized individuals from picking up students.
Lunch Visits
Lunch visits will be allowed on the student’s birthday and once a month on a day that the campus principal designates for a special occasion related to district/campus goals, including student achievement, attendance, and customer service. Parents may only bring lunch for their child. Sharing meals and offering lunch to other students is not permitted. (Perfect Attendance/Student of the Month)
Student Early Check Outs
Late Afternoon Check-outs
To ensure a safe and smooth dismissal daily, the district has designated late afternoon check-out times for all campuses.
