Community Update
June 21, 2024
Hello North Rockland Community,
The conclusion of the 2023-24 school year has arrived!
As we bring another successful year at North Rockland to a close, I want to express my pride in the hard work and dedication shown by our educators, faculty, administrators and staff. They continuously seek out new ways to enhance the educational experience, creatively make more happen for our students and their commitment is commendable.
This year has made its mark with a focus on individualized service and support at the forefront. From tailoring programs like PAES labs to fit the needs and interests of learners of all ability levels to doubling the foreign languages offered and bringing on new opportunities to showcase talents in school like the inaugural "Rockfest," this year has propelled our District forward. By investing in areas focused on student growth with care and attention, we have set each student up for success and they have clearly surpassed the challenge.
Major upgrades to our facilities and technology have complemented student achievement, providing K-3 learners with the tools they need to thrive in today's fast-paced world. From new classroom equipment to on-stage lighting and enhancing offerings in shared spaces like the planetarium and weight room we have created a learning environment that is second to none. Below, you can view a behind-the-scenes video of the Thiells Elementary Talent Show, which demonstrates the magic that happens when talents and resources come together.
Throughout the year, we have witnessed significant improvements in academic performance, participation, social and emotional development and overall well-being, thanks to these new initiatives.
After attending numerous unforgettable graduations and moving-up ceremonies over the past two weeks, I want to encourage all NR students as they wrap up their year: Your next chapter has just begun. Every journey is unique, so avoid comparing yourself to others. Focus on your goals, celebrate your successes and take the time to plan your next steps. Be proactive and trust that the right opportunities will come your way with hard work and persistence. Congratulations and best of luck – you've got this!
It's been an incredible and impactful year and we're ending it on a high note. When we return we will close out the final days of the school year, with the last official day being a half-day, on Wednesday, June 26.

District Highlights
North Rockland Takes On Wall Street
Every year the Academy of Finance takes a trip to the NYSE, but this year they got to be on the floor for the ringing of the bell! Check out this video on how the AoF prepares our students to be #RaiderReady for the future.
Seal Of Biliteracy Ceremony
89 foreign language students received the New York State Seal of Biliteracy (NYSSB) and over 150 students were recognized for their work and anticipated Seal of Biliteracy. Additionally, 10 students were awarded the Seal of Biliteracy in two languages.
The NR Foreign Language Department highlighted that NRCSD has expanded our offerings to include different world language options of: Spanish, Italian, French, Arabic, Russian, Twi, Mandarin, Haitian Creole, and American Sign Language. The district ranks among the top in the state for the total number of NYSSB recipients. The NYSSB recognizes high school graduates with high proficiency in English and one or more world languages. To qualify, students need to maintain an average of 85% or better in two languages and present a Culminating Project in English and/or a world language that demonstrates proficiency in all three modes of communication (Interpretive, Interpersonal, and Presentational). During their presentations, students selected a current topic or issue in a country or area where their chosen language is spoken. More Photos.
Music Awards Night 🥇🎵
Seniors get to honor someone who has made a lasting impact on their musical career in North Rockland by giving them a rose at the Music Department’s Awards Ceremony. The honorees range from underclassmen to staff to family. The tradition is unique and special, with honorees' reactions ranging from smiles to tears and everywhere in between. Congratulations to all the seniors moving forward! We know you’ll do great things! More Photos.
Kindergarten Prom 💃🕺🪩
Our youngest students have worked very hard and made great progress during their first year of school. The in-school dance was a perfect way to celebrate their success and have fun while dressed up in sparkly dresses and dapper suits for the occasion. All kindergarten classes took a group photo before hitting the dance floor to show off their moves, start conga lines, freeze dance, disco and clap their hands! We are extremely proud of each and every one of them. First grade, here we come! More Photos.

Raiders of the Week
Red Raider of the Week
Javon Lawrence is our final RED RAIDER OF THE WEEK! Javon is a junior on the boys varsity spring track and field team!!! Javon is known as a stellar athlete with many impressive athletic accolades. He ran in the 100m, 200m, and 4x100 relay this season and was high placing in each event. Throughout the season, he along with his relay race teammates were breaking the record for the 4x100m every single meet and eventually took their athletic talents to the State meet and BREAKING the school, the Section, and the State record AGAIN with a time of 41.5.Besides being a track superstar, Javon plays corner and safety on the varsity football team in the fall. Coach Orlando said, “Javon is one of the most talented athletes I have ever worked with. He has taken a big leap forward in terms of responsibility and maturity this year and was a major reason why our relays were capable of winning the state championship 4x1 and national championship 4x2. I’m very excited to see what he can do in his senior year.” Let’s make some #REDANDWHITENOISE for Javon!!
Lady Raider of the Week
Kaelyn Prince is our final LADY RAIDER OF THE WEEK!!! Kaelyn is a senior on the varsity girls track and field team. Kaelyn once again qualified for the New York State Track and Field Championships and participated in the 1500m. During the State Qualifiers at Suffern Middle School, she was once again a big underdog going into the event but came out as the Section One State Qualifier champion with a time of 4:47 which was her personal best by six seconds. She placed 29th at the NYS meet with a time of 4:53.66. In addition to running the 1500m, she also participated in the 800m and 3000m as well as the 4x400 relay, 4x800 relay, and 4x1600 relay. She has also been a part of the girls cross country team and winter track and field. Coach Sutton said, “Kaelyn Prince evolved into not only a great athlete but a great student of the sport. With this she not only helped herself, but everyone around her. She would challenge her teammates and me daily and it only made everyone around her better at the end. It was a pleasure to coach her these last four years; she will be truly missed.” Let’s make some #REDANDWHITENOISE for Kaelyn!!
