How can my student get involved in clubs? What about sports?
Each year in late August there is a club fair before school. This gives all students a chance to come find out about all clubs at Northwestern. All clubs require a parent signature to participate. More information on the current clubs at Northwestern can be found on the school's website, https://www.fultonschools.org/domain/4511.
Students cannot participate in extramurals until 7th grade.
What do I do if my student is going to be absent or is out sick?
All doctor's and sick notes can be emailed directly to our front desk nmsfrontdesk@fultonschools.org. It is not necessary to email the AP but of course email the teachers to check for missed work.
If you have a planned absence that you would like to have approved please email the grade level AP and the front desk at the above email.
If they come in late after an appointment please send them in with the note and they may enter the building on their own.
How do I let the school know how my student will get home if it changes?
If you need to change your students way home during the day please contact the front office and they will notify your student or you can text them if they have a watch or phone.
It is not necessary to let the teacher or AP know of your students dismissal method. This is a responsibility we give to the student. Also, please make sure they know their bus number - not the animal - in middle school we no longer use the animal system.
If your student rides carpool daily you will drop off and they will enter into the building through the Wildcat Den.
Course Recommendation Information - This was sent home on blue paper and this is the text from the letter
Dear Parents of Rising 6th grade Students:
On the reverse side of this letter, please find a Course Request form that lists the courses that have been recommended by your child’s current teachers to take next year. Each teacher in each subject was asked to make his/her professional recommendation for placement taking several factors into account. Although, your child may have met qualification criteria set in the Fulton County Schools Placement Guidelines (available at http://tinyurl.com/2vbnhy6f) for a particular course, the teacher may feel it is in the best interest of your child to enroll in another course level. Please keep in mind that your child’s teacher was encouraged to consider behaviors he/she observes at school such as: interest in the subject matter, ability to complete tasks in accordance with the timeframe that would be expected of an advanced level course, work ethic, and overall course load for a student. We ask that you strongly consider the recommendations made by your child’s teachers. They have made these recommendations based on their professional opinion of your child’s readiness for the next course. Any questions regarding a recommendation must be addressed with the appropriate teacher at the school.
Included in this list is your indication of participation in a year-long performing arts group (band, chorus, or orchestra). If there is no indication of performing arts and you would like your child to participate, please add your choice for the group to the list of courses by completing this form (https://forms.office.com/r/8ybiKQB9CZ). If your child has decided he/she does not want to participate, please indicate this by completing the form. Please keep in mind that the performing arts commitment is a year-long commitment. Over the course of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade years, students are placed in various Connections courses to provide learning experiences across our Connections course offerings. Parent/student requests for Connections courses in 6th, 7th, and 8th grade are not considered.
At this time, you may request that your child be placed in a lower-level course than what appears on the form/in Infinite Campus, or you may request that he/she be moved from World Language to Reading. You may also request a change in the World Language Selection or the Fine Arts Connection class, to make this change please complete the form. If you desire to place your child in a higher-level course, against the teacher’s recommendation, the Waiver Form (http://tinyurl.com/2b9bubtn) must be completed and emailed to manganellia@fultonschools.org.
Please note: TAG placement is authorized only after the proper testing has been completed. You may not request TAG classes in subjects for which your child has not qualified.
If you have a question about a particular placement for next year, please consult your student’s teacher.
