A Message from the Principal
Hello Woodland Families,
This afternoon, we wrapped up the week with so much laughter and joy at our Pie in the Face assembly! Our Wildcats had a blast as Mrs. Rosinski, Ms. Carion, Ms. Green, Ms. Coulter, Ms. Miller, Ms. Cheney, Mrs. Bryzik, Ms. Caton, Mrs. Burmistrzak, and Mrs. Jones bravely took pies to the face. It was a wonderful way to celebrate together and bring a close to our most successful Fun Run to date! A big THANK YOU to Mrs. Culver for taking pictures for us at the assembly!

As we approach Thanksgiving break, I want to take a moment to express my gratitude for each of you. Parents and guardians are the foundation of our school community, and your partnership plays a vital role in shaping the success and well-being of our students. Whether it’s supporting learning at home, volunteering, attending school events, or simply being an advocate for your child, your involvement makes our school stronger. We are so fortunate to have such a caring and engaged community that values the growth and success of every student.
This Thanksgiving, I hope you take time to enjoy moments of joy and togetherness with your loved ones. Please know how much we value and appreciate all that you do. All of us at Woodland look forward to welcoming everyone back on Monday, December 2nd, refreshed and ready for the exciting weeks ahead!
Warm wishes,
Mrs. Katalin Rosinski

We are so excited to host our second annual Wildcat Winter Shop! During the week of Dec. 9th-12th, students will be able to shop for gifts for their families. Students will shop with classmates during a scheduled time. This is a great, real life opportunity for students to experience buying goods. Gifts will be wrapped, labeled, and put in a bag to be taken home. Gifts range from $2-$12. More information will be sent home in the weeks to come.
In order to make this event a success, we need parent volunteers! Please sign up using this link Wildcat Winter Shop 2024. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Carion at katie.carion@avondaleschools.org.
Education Benefits Application Reminder
This is a reminder for all families to complete the CEP Education Benefits Application, if you have not already done so for this school year. Although school meals are free for all students, it is critical that all households complete the CEP Education Benefits Application. This information determines the amount of money our schools receive from a variety of State and Federal supplemental programs that support our students, staff, and families.
Families can submit their completed application online through the Meal Magic Family Portal. Any questions can be forwarded to Megan Haase at megan.haase@avondaleschools.org.
Our School is Peanut & Tree Nut Free
Please remember that Woodland is a Peanut-Free and Tree-Nut Free school. Do not send any snacks or lunch items that "may contain nuts" or "manufactured on the same equipment or in a facility that contains nut products". We have some students and staff in our building that have very severe allergies to any kind of nuts, both peanuts and tree nuts. Thank you for your cooperation in this very serious matter to keep our everyone safe.
Lost & Found
Woodland's Lost and Found is overflowing! It is located by the gym and cafeteria. If your child is missing a jacket, sweatshirt, lunchbox, etc., please remind your child to look in the Lost and Found. Parents, please plan on checking out the lost and found if you are in the school because all unclaimed items will be donated before our Winter Break in December.

Troy Public Library BOOKMOBILE is Coming!
Mark your calendars! The Troy Public Library Bookmobile is a library on wheels and it's coming to Woodland on Monday, December 2nd from 4-5pm, and Monday, January 6th from 4-5pm. We would love to see you there!
P.S. The Troy Public Library is currently closed due to some unexpected electrical repairs to the building, and all library programming and services have been suspended during this time. So, the bookmobile will not be running tomorrow, Saturday, November 23rd. Our apologies for the inconvenience, and we look forward to seeing you next time.
Golden Paw Awards
Woodland has started a new incentive program called "The Golden Paw" awards. Students who demonstrate our ROARS expectations and go above and beyond may receive a Golden Paw certificate from our Woodland staff. The student brings it down to the Main Office, where they put it in the Golden Paw box in front of Mrs. Rosinski's office. On Friday mornings, a few names are drawn from the box and those students get to pick a prize from our Golden Paw treat cart in the Main Office.
This week's winners are as follows:

Theo Z - Carefully following directions
Edith W - Cleaning up the lunch choice board

Positivity Project - P2
This week, our school community focused on the trait of Gratitude. This means that you are aware of and thankful for good things that happen. Gratitude is the quality of feeling and expressing thankfulness and appreciation. It is an affirmation that there is goodness in other people and the world, and that we have received that goodness. People with the strength of gratitude have a readiness to show appreciation for kindness and also to return kindness. A leading expert, Robert Emmons, calls gratitude a "relationship-strengthening emotion because it requires us to see how we've been supported and affirmed by other people."
Why Does It Matter?
Out of all 24 character strengths, gratitude is the single best predictor of individual well-being. It is correlated with increased energy, empathy, happiness and optimism. And, the great thing about gratitude is that it can be intentionally cultivated. Numerous studies have concluded that gratitude is like a muscle. The more you practice it, the stronger it gets - and the more you're able to reap its benefits.
To practice and encourage the character strength of prudence with your child, please visit the Positivity Project’s P2 for Families (password: P2) where together you will watch a video, read a quote and talk about the answers to three questions.
In two weeks, when we return from Thanksgiving break, we will focus on Kindness.
Happy Birthday
