College Heights Connection
February 29, 2024
Principal's Message
Our school family came together this past weekend for the annual PTA auction and it was a huge success. Thank you to everyone who attended, and special thanks to our amazing PTA volunteers, especially Laura Bollman and her dedicated committee, who have been planning this event since the beginning of the school year. Look for a detailed auction update tomorrow. Thank you to the parents in Sela Soldat's three year old classroom for a delicious staff lunch. We are so grateful for our generous College Heights families.
Have a great weekend,
Principal Garland

Volunteer Opportunities
We need your help! If you have any availability on Mondays from 8:45-10:45 am to help with Pre-K circulation, we would love to have you. Volunteers are also needed for Monday, April 15, when all Pre-K classes will browse the Little Shop of Stories book fair and make wish lists. If you're able to help with either of these, please email Leslie. Look for the Sign-Up Genius for the book fair in late March. Thank you in advance.
March in the Media Center
College Heights students enjoyed our school-wide celebrations of Black history and Black excellence in classrooms and in the library this month. We are looking forward to March events such as Women's History Month, Holi, Ramadan, a new season (Spring!), and Music In Our Schools Month®. Please come by to check out books for your families on all these events.
Bunny Bags - Self Checkout Procedures for Families
If you are interested in checking out a Bunny Bag to take home and I am not in the library (my hours are 7:30 am-3:30 pm daily), there is an easy procedure for this:
- Take the bag you want from either of the two racks next to the ActivPanel.
- Write your name, the number of the Bunny Bag, and the date on the self checkout clipboard across from the circulation desk.
- Enjoy the bag and bring it back in two weeks!
Media Center This Week
Pre-K students really connected with the beautifully illustrated book I Am Every Good Thing by Derrick Barnes and Gordon C. James (authors/illustrators of the award-winning Crown: an Ode to the Fresh Cut). In this book, students see a young boy who is brimming with life, energy, and big plans, but we also see his softer and more sensitive side, where he talks about being afraid, being a friend, and being misunderstood. This was the perfect book to cap off Black History Month.
Other books we read this week:
Hooray for Today! by Brian Won
Lucky Duck by Greg Pizzoli
One-Osaurus, Two-Osaurus by Kim Norman and Pierre Collet-Derby
The Nuts: Keep Rolling! by Eric Litwin and Scott Magoon
Most People by Michael Leannah and Jennifer E. Morris
