Weekly News, Updates, and Opportunities from SRMS
A Message from Dr. Ortiz, Principal of Sandy Run
Good afternoon Sandy Run families. So far, we have had an amazing start to the 2023-24 School Year. Our teachers and staff have been excellent at welcoming students back; families have been great with new carline procedures and sharing a positive outlook; but most of all, our students have been truly exceptional. They came in with a positive attitude, a great work ethic, and an energy towards the school year that we haven't seen in some time. Our early efforts to continuing to create a positive school culture (more detail next week), coupled with some slight improvements to daily operations have allowed the school year to begin without any hiccups. As excited as I was to begin the year, the classes of 2028, 2029, and 2030 have exceeded my expectations - thank you for allowing us to work with your kids during the school day. Please see the information below more more updates and information, including details about Back to School Night which is next Thursday, September 14.
Sincerely,
Dan Ortiz

IMPORTANT LINKS:
Back To School Night
- This is a reminder that our 2023-24 Back to School Night will be held next week, Thursday, September 14. 6th Grade Back to School Night will begin at 5:45 on September 14 and will conclude by 7:00. 7th and 8th grade Back to School Night will occur at 7:15 on September 14. Due to limited parking, we are asking families to carpool as much as possible. Back To School Night is a night to learn an overview of our students' classes, not to focus on specific individual student questions - we are more than happy to discuss these privately at another time so that we can devote the appropriate amount of time and attention to your questions. More information will be sent to families at the beginning of next week and we look forward to seeing you!
Food Service Updates
Welcome back! There's some big updates from our food services department!
For menus, FAQ's, news and more- visit the UDSD Food Service Department website at https://sites.google.com/udsd.org/foodservices/home. Our FAQs are updated with tons of news and guidance.- Big News: We're excited to announce that breakfast is free for all enrolled Upper Dublin SD students for the 23/24 School Year! Additionally, students who qualify for reduced price meals will NOT be charged and will receive their lunches at no cost.
- *NEW* Cafeteria Process: All district schools are moving towards scanning a barcoded ID card to access student meal accounts, versus students entering their student ID number in the cafeteria line. The goal of this district-wide process is to minimize line time and maximize seated meal time for your students.
- The school picture provider will send students their ID cards after this year's picture day. Until the cards are distributed, students at Sandy Run Middle School and Upper Dublin High School will still be able to enter their student ID number. We do ask that any students who have ANY UDSD issued barcoded ID card from previous school years use that card as part of our transition. Students at Upper Dublin High School can also generate their barcode via the schoolcafe app and use this to scan in the cafeteria effective the first day of school. Students who would like to use their app as the barcode should: register on Schoolcafe' by creating a profile. (www.schoolcafe.com) Then, link their account using their ID, Birthday, and last name. Finally, once the record is created, the student can then view their student id barcode on the Schoolcafe' phone app or online at schoolcafe.com.
- Applications are open: Families can apply for the free or reduced price meal program at www.schoolcafe.com.
- We wish everyone a great school year and look forward to seeing you in line!
UDHS Football Game
Friday, September 8 is the first football game of the season for the Upper Dublin High School Flying Cardinals. These are often exciting community events that draw great support from across the community. As a reminder to students and families, students are expected to adhere to the same level of responsibility and conduct as they would while in school - school rules still apply. Even though it is a Friday night, this is still a district-sponsored event where positive behavior is expected by all. While parental supervision is always key for all of our kids, there will also be security and police personnel on site to ensure everyone can enjoy the game and camaraderie throughout the night.

NO BACKPACKS, WATER BOTTLES, OR OUTSIDE FOOD WILL BE PERMITTED INTO THE STADIUM.
