ACT for all Juniors:
Campo is excited to announce that the ACT will be administered to currently enrolled Juniors free of cost on Tuesday, February 27, 2018. This opportunity has been made possible by the Arizona Commission for Postsecondary Education (ACPE) which awarded GPS with the Nationally Recognized College-Readiness Examination Pilot Program Expansion Grant. n order to provide the most productive testing environment for our Junior Class on Tuesday, February 27, this has been designated as a Testing Day at our GPS High Schools, which means only 11th grade students will report to their high school campus on this day. All 9th, 10th, and 12th will not attend school on this day. Bus routes will run as regularly scheduled to pick up Junior Class students that morning. Testing will begin at approximately 8am. Lunch will be available for the Junior Class at the conclusion of the testing session, and school will be dismissed at 1:30pm. Buses will also provide transportation home. For families with younger siblings, GPS elementary and junior high campuses will follow their regular campus schedule on this day.
*EVIT attendance is still expected for 10th and 12th grade students. The 11th grade students will be excused from attendance but given a home assignment in lieu of attending for the day since they are taking the ACT.

Summer School Registration Information
Gilbert Public Schools Community,
For the 2018 GPS Secondary Summer School Session we will be changing the registration procedures.
In previous years, registration was done through Community Education and their online system. This year we are moving registration to work within Infinite Campus, using InTouch. Moving to Infinite Campus has allowed us to work with the school counselors to create a system in which Summer School recommendations come directly from your child’s counselor.
This year, in order to register for a summer school course, a request will need to be placed with your child’s counselor. That counselor will then suggest the course in Infinite Campus and place the course fee suggestion in the Parent Portal for our InTouch payment system.
Parents will receive an email that the course has been suggested and that they can then find it under the Highland High School (location of 2018 summer school) tab in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal to pay for it. Once payment is received, the student will be registered for the course and a confirmation email will be sent.
Registration opens March 21st, however, students can visit their counselor and request classes prior to that date. Payment and registration cannot be completed until March 21st.
For more information please visit our webpage: Summer School Information
If you have any questions about the Secondary Summer School process please email us: summerschool@gilbertschools.net
If you have any questions on what class is best to take for your child this summer, please contact your child’s school counselor.

AP REGISTRATION
It is time to sign up for AP tests!
For the 2018 AP exams, current AP students at Campo Verde High School will be registering online. This registration will take a few minutes and can be completed from any computer with internet access. Instead of being limited to bookstore hours and having to send your student to school with cash or a check, you will now be able to pay with a credit or debit card (or mail in payment if desired).
This year each AP exam costs $98.00. Campo Verde High School desires that every student be able to take their AP exams. Students requiring financial assistance that qualify for free or reduced lunch should contact Sarah McManus in the counseling office as soon as possible.
Online Exam registration will begin on Monday, January 15, 2018 at 12:00 AM and end on Tuesday, March 6, 2018 at 11:59 PM.
In order to register, students should visit:
https://user.totalregistration.net/AP/030696 to register.
To complete registration, students must answer all of the required questions. Registration is not complete until students have printed or saved the pdf of the confirmation page that is provided at the end. We know that parents may desire to register their students for exams. We strongly recommend that parents and students are both present while registering to ensure that the correct exams are ordered.

Link Crew
The Academics Committee is instrumental in the Link N' Learn's success as they are the complete and sole organizers for the event, a monumental opportunity for these students. There have been Link N' Learns involving organization, test-taking strategies, technology, and the most recent, goal setting and scheduling. The Academics Committee is passionate about the long-term academic and personal achievements of the students and for this reason, came up with Link N' Learns in order to teach the students necessary life and school strategies. Their passion shines through and students seem to really enjoy the lessons.
In addition, the Link Crew Leaders just went to Disneyland where they strengthened their bond to each other and participated in leadership exercises. The students learned about how to better their leadership skills as well as how to achieve their personal goals, all while having the time of their lives. It is rare to get the chance to have such a meaningful and fulfilling trip; everyone came back renewed and with a new perspective, and the Link Crew program as a whole couldn't be more grateful.

Chandler Romney and Family Recognized at All American Bowl
The Campo Verde High School Band Program has yet another reason to be proud as one of their own was chosen to perform with the U S Army All-American Marching Band on January 6, 2018 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.
Chandler Romney, a senior, was nominated last year by Band Director, Mr. Matt Kozacek, to audition for the band, which selects only the best of the best from across the Country. The audition process is quite involved and includes submitting a biography, three different audition videos, and numerous other documents just to be considered. Of the over 1000 students nominated across the Country, there were 11 students from Arizona selected and two from the town of Gilbert, one of them being Chandler, to perform as part of the 125 member band. The U S Army Selection Tour made a stop at Campo Verde High School last fall where Chandler was officially recognized as a member of the 2018 Band.
Chandler received an all expense paid trip to San Antonio, Texas from January 1 – 7, and after an exhaustive week of practice, performed as part of the half-time show at the nationally-televised event.
In addition, Mr. Kozacek also nominated the Romney family as “Band Family of the Year.” They are a dedicated “Band Family” who encourages and promotes music and the benefits of the fine arts in their home and in the lives of their children. We are proud to announce that the Romney Family was chosen as the 2018 All American Marching Band Family of the Year. This honor included a live interview with Chandler and his family during the 2nd Quarter of the football game.
What an honor! Congratulations to Chandler and his family for a well deserved award and for representing our awesome Band Program, Campo Verde High School, and the Town of Gilbert!

Independent Reading
Does your child have to do independent reading for any classes? If so, he/she can look up topics, genres, authors, etc. in the library catalog located on the school webpage:
http://gilbertcampoverdehigh.ss11.sharpschool.com/cms/One.aspx?portalId=70316&pageId=328552
He/she will be able to see suggested titles, read summaries, and find out if the book is in. Students have been trained in their English classes on using this resource, but any student can come into the library to get a refresher on how to use this valuable tool.
We have two displays up for the month of February. Students should check their independent reading requirements to see if they need to read a romance or a nonfiction title as these two displays will fulfill those requirements.
Romance novels- thanks to the help of senior Emilia Kusak
Black History Month- nonfiction books detailing lives of influential African Americans
