Extra Clothing - A Note From Our Nurses
Dear Parents and Guardians,
Weather in Massachusetts is unpredictable. It can be frigid one day and warm the next. There can be snow one day followed by rain and mud. Please check the weather prior to arriving at school and send your student to school with weather appropriate clothing, outerwear and footwear.
Extra set of clothes for children to be kept in their locker
Please send in an extra set of clothes for your student to be kept in their locker or cubby, regardless of their grade. This will allow them to change from clothes that might have become wet, muddy or spilled something on so they can stay comfortable and ready to learn. Please include socks in this set of clothing, as these are frequently requested items they need replaced.
Thank you,
Nurse Valerie and Nurse Michelle

2025-2026 Class Placement Process
We will begin the class placement process for the 2025-2026 school year in April. This is a thorough and thoughtful process that takes into account each child’s academic, social, and behavioral needs. Our entire Bresnahan staff collaborates to ensure students are placed in an environment where they can thrive and have a successful school experience.
Due to the large number of students in our building, we are unable to accept placement requests. We appreciate your understanding and trust in this process as we work to create the best learning environments for all students. Thank you for your support!

Volunteer Requirements
CORI Process
- All volunteers must have an up-to-date CORI on file with the Newburyport Elementary Schools.
- Bring the completed CORI form along with your driver's license to the Administrative Assistant at our school office.
- Please note CORI's are only valid for three years; after that you must reapply.
Fingerprinting
In keeping with Newburyport's continued focus on safety, volunteers/parents are required to be fingerprinted in two instances:
- If you are going on a day or overnight field trip and will have direct and unmonitored contact with children;
- If you are a lunchroom volunteer and will be bringing children out to the playground. Parents who volunteer in the classroom DO NOT need to be fingerprinted, if there will always be another adult present.
Massachusetts has contracted with MorphoTrust for fingerprinting. To book an appointment, visit the Massachusetts IdentoGO Website.
Please be aware there is a $35 fee for fingerprinting. Fingerprinting does not expire.

THE 2025 CLIPPER READATHON: Thank you!
A big round of applause to all our kids who have been reading so diligently! Together they read an impressive 250,000 minutes and counting! We want to give another huge round of applause to Renee Ames, our beloved librarian. She ordered new books, hosted the campouts, and made this year really special!!! Every child at the Bresnahan had a chance to participate. Thank you also to our parent volunteers who helped at the campouts and/or loaned pop-up tents.
If you didn’t get a chance to enter your child’s Readathon minutes, you can email the Newburyport PTO at newburyportpto@gmail.com with your child’s name, classroom and minutes. You have until 12 p.m. on Thursday. All minutes have to be from reading that occurred during the Readathon (March 17- March 31st).
If you’d still like to make a pledge to the Readathon, you can make a general donation until 12 p.m. on Thursday. Remember 10% of funds raised in the Readathon will be used for school library books. The remaining 90% will be used for field trip transportation, enrichment programs and making PTO sponsored programs free for families. We are very close to our goal and appreciate the help!
We hope everyone enjoyed our 4th Clipper Readathon. After Thursday, we will calculate our totals and announce the “winners” for most reading minutes, but every child is truly a winner for participating!
