Message from Dr. Bruce
Dear Goodwater Families,
I hope this email finds you and your loved ones well.
We are now 18 weeks into the 2024-2025 school year, and I would like to take this opportunity to share some important updates and accomplishments.
At the start of the year, students completed their Beginning of the Year MAP Growth assessment, which helps us understand their academic standing at that time. Since then, students have taken the Middle of the Year MAP assessment, measuring their progress from the beginning of the year. Later this spring, they will take an End of Year assessment. These assessments are valuable tools for our Guides and Assistants to identify areas of opportunity and ensure continuous student growth. I’m excited to report that we’re seeing great progress so far, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our staff.
In addition to MAP Growth assessments, students have completed their nine-week evaluations for the first and second quarters. These assessments help us ensure students are mastering the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) for each nine-week period. The results indicate continued improvement, and we are committed to providing additional support as needed.
I want to take a moment to express my gratitude to our incredible staff—Guides, Assistants, Special Programs team, and Administrative team—for their unwavering dedication to creating a supportive and enriching environment for our students and families.
Important Reminders:
- No School Monday, January 20, 2025: In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
- January 20, 2025: Inauguration of the 47th President of the United States
- Weather Updates for Tuesday, January 21, 2025: We are closely monitoring the potential for a significant weather event. Please ensure you have downloaded the Remind App, as it will be a primary tool for updates. Information will also be shared via email, our website, and Facebook.
- Board Meeting: The Board Meeting on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, has been rescheduled to 5:00 PM due to the potential weather event. Along with our regular agenda, we will celebrate School Board Recognition Month to honor our dedicated board members who volunteer their time to support and guide our school.
Thank you for your ongoing partnership and support. We look forward to continuing this successful year together!
Kindest regards,
Dr. Bruce
Welcome to our new guide Ms. Carina Reason - Mockingbird
Dear Parents and Students,
Hello! My name is Carina M. Reason, and I am thrilled to begin my adventure as part of the 1st and 2nd Grade Mockingbird Classroom this year. It is an exciting time, and I look forward to working with each of you as we embark on a journey of learning and growth.
I have been in education for the past 5 years, and during that time, I’ve had the privilege of supporting and nurturing the development of young minds. Before transitioning into education, I spent 13 years in the semiconductor industry and 9 years in human resources, where I gained valuable experience in problem-solving, communication, and collaboration. These skills have been incredibly helpful as I work to create a positive and enriching learning environment for my students.
In addition to my professional life, I am a proud mother of a beautiful daughter who is currently a high school senior at Gateway College Preparatory School. Outside of the classroom, I am deeply committed to my community and volunteer with various youth organizations. Giving back is something that brings me great joy and fulfillment.
I am passionate about exploring new ways to expand the knowledge of our future generations, and I believe that with the right support and guidance, every child can achieve amazing things. I look forward to working closely with each of you to help your child thrive and succeed this year.
Thank you for the opportunity to be a part of your child’s educational journey. I’m excited to work together to make this a memorable and successful school year!
Warm regards,
Carina M. Reason
National School of Choice Week 1/26 - 2/1
What is school choice? School choice is the process of allowing every family to choose the K-12 educational options that best fit their children. Every child is unique, and all children learn differently. Some children might succeed at the neighborhood public school, while others might find a better fit in a public charter, public magnet, online, private, home, or nontraditional environment. That’s why educational choice is so important!
School choice options include all forms of education, from traditional public schools to public charter schools, public magnet schools, private schools, online learning, homeschooling, and microschooling.
Every child deserves an effective, challenging, and motivating education. And, because each student has their own unique set of talents, interests, and challenges, having a variety of options in education is crucial. What works well for one child may not work well for another child! In short, school choice ensures that each student can find a learning environment that allows them to be inspired, successful, and happy.
