Walker families,
Please review the Compulsory Attendance Laws. Your child's academic growth is dependent on attendance everyday. When students arrive late and leave early, they are missing out on learning opportunities. Every minute counts. Please make sure your child is at school by 7:50. Dismissal is at 3:35. We look forward to welcoming your child each and every day! #EveryChildEvery Chance
Parent Lunches
Parents are welcome to start joining students for lunch on Mondays and Fridays beginning August 28th. At Walker, we welcome our families, but we have some guidelines.
-Enjoy lunch with your child on the tables on the stage.
-Please do not invite other students to the stage for lunch. This leads to hurt feelings by students that are not invited.
-Please do not use your phone to photograph or video other students in the cafeteria. Please respect the privacy of our students. Ask yourself...Would want someone taking pictures or videoing your child?
-When your child's lunch period is over, please go straight to the office to check out.
Thank you for respecting these guidelines.
Walker Houses
We are so excited to announce that this year our school will be launching a new initiative that will help enhance the already amazing climate and culture of our school.
Starting this year, our school will be implementing the “House System.” in which every student and staff member will take part in creating a strong community of learners. Through this initiative, each student will be sorted into a house. These houses will have students of all grade levels in them as well as a variety of staff members. Students and staff will work together throughout the year to build strong bonds and relationships that will allow them to feel more connected to our school. Our goal is for students to feel as if they truly know all the staff and students in our school and that we are united as one.
Each house represents a specific character trait and will work together to represent their trait with pride. Houses will meet throughout the year to participate in team bonding activities, work on character trait development and complete special projects together.
Students will also be earning points for their houses. Points are a way that we will be reinforcing the positive behavior that our amazing students show. There will even be a friendly house competition between all the houses to see who will be our eventual ”House Champion” for the school year.
We encourage you to participate in this experience as well. Ask your children about their house, show pride in their house by wearing house colors or coming to our assemblies and get involved in our amazing community. Our school community is not just the students and staff, but you, the parents, as well! We look forward to working together with you to grow our community.
House Point Totals- Congratulations to Nukumori!!!
Nukumori- House of Kindness
Congrats to the students that earned 20 or more points!!!
We celebrated several students that earned 20 or more points this week. Ask your child if they were one of the ones recognized. Each student that earned 20 points had their named called out in our Morning Meeting! I am so proud of ALL of our students!
Arrival/Dismissal
Please form one line in the arrival/dismissal lines. Please see images below for arrival/dismissal routes.
Parents, I ask that you do not walk through car traffic for the safety of yourself and your child. Please use the crosswalks.
Reminder- Abbey Road is one way from 7-8am and 3-4pm. (see image below)
Dress Code
Parents please see the updated dress code guidelines. Everyone has done a pretty good job. As a reminder, hoods are not to be worn in the building. Students will be asked to take off and remove jackets with hoods or hoodie sweatshirts. Jeans should also be free of rips, tears, holes, and frays. Please see the update on shirts and outerwear. Please note that outerwear guidelines are the same for shirts.
