Valentine’s Day Craft-Making Party - Get Your Tickets!
Our superstar second-grade teachers, Ms. Whalen, Ms. Tsuji and Mr. Johnson, have generously donated their time and resources to our first hosted party of 2024: a Valentine’s Day craft-making party!
Details:
Date: Thursday February 8
Time: 3:00-5 (the kids joining will be collected when school gets out)
Where: Room 10
Who: Open to 15 kids, 2nd-5th graders..
What: The kids will craft adorable heart-themed Valentine’s that they can take home (and present to you on February 14, perhaps!) as well as make their own special treats!
Cost: $45 per child
Get your tickets HERE before this hot ticket sells out!
What are Hosted Parties? Hosted Parties are organized by a Thornhill parent or family, a group of parents or by our teachers. Hosts share the cost of putting together their event and guests buy tickets to attend with all proceeds going to the Thornhill Parent Faculty Club (PFC) to support school programming. If you have an idea for a party or even just a few questions about hosting, please email hostaparty@thornhillschool.org and we can help you get it going!
Thank you,
Samantha Grice and Laura Borrman

Updates from the Library - RSVP for School-wide Event: Read & Feed
The Thornhill Read-a-thon is just around the corner - the annual event will take place from January 29 - February 9 (more info to come shortly!).
As a part of this event, we'd love for you to join us for our second annual Read & Feed! On Wednesday, February 7 from 5:30-7pm, we will gather in the Multi-Purpose Room for a celebration of reading, eating, and community. There will be book-based art projects, delicious pizza dinner, and spaces to hang out and read together. Stay tuned for more details.
Please help us plan for food for the event by RSVPing on this google form by Friday, January 26.
In addition, Thornhill will be participating in the Oakland EdFund Annual African-American History Month Read-in! On Thursday February 15 from 9:30-11am screened volunteers will visit classrooms for twenty minutes to share a read aloud in celebration of the national heritage month and literature!
We would love to have community members from Thornhill visit classes to read. We will provide a great selection of books, or you can bring one that you would love to share.
Please let me know on this form if you would like to participate in the Read-in!
And last but not least, sending big thank yous to the following families for their donations of books to the library. Your generous support is much appreciated!
Lily Espinoza Family
Hannah Eisman Family
With gratitude,
Ms. Fox

This Friday January 26: Walk to School Is Back!
The Green Team is launching an informal and family-led initiative to walk to school one Wednesday a month! This week, the rain is pushing the walk to Friday January 26. Based on the success of the official Walk to School Day last October, where half the school made the morning stroll, many families said they'd like to do more walking trains: "It's fun and social!" This initiative is informal, not related to an official event, and anyone can participate if they wish to. That's 5 morning walks to enjoy the rest of this year with other school families, a little exercise to start a better day and less cars on the road. Can't beat that!
Find your Walking Station Address
Gear up your "walking train", call your neighbor families and set your meeting time for this Friday morning! Find your meeting station here!

About the Thornhill Newsletter
The Thornhill Parent-Faculty Club (PFC) Communications team publishes this weekly newsletter each Tuesday in the school year to communicate school, PFC and OUSD news, events and information. We all have plenty of other things to do, but please try to read it weekly, as it will more than likely answer most questions you have about what’s up at school. Information about how to submit to the newsletter is below, but you can reach out at any time at newsletter@thornhillschool.org.
Email submissions to Annie Sartor, at newsletter@thornhillschool.org by 8 p.m. Thursday for approval—nothing sent after this will be included in the following week’s newsletter unless there are extremely compelling extenuating circumstances. It’s fine to include text in the body of the email with links and no formatting, and attach photos preferably as 150 x 150, 72 dpi JPG or GIFs only (not embedded in email or word file). Submissions may be edited for spelling, grammar, brevity and clarity. Advertising and items not related to Thornhill are not accepted, as we need to keep the newsletter focused on need-to-know info for the community.
THANK YOU to everyone who submits articles and to PFC Board Members, Teachers, VP of Communications Jill Evans, PFC Presidents Evie Nagy and Catrina Vrankovich, and Principal Steve Daubenspeck, member of Oakland Unified School District (OUSD).
