Kindness Really Does Matter!
Principal's Message
Hello Wildcat Families!
Memorial Day is a time for us to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the United States Armed Forces. Their selfless dedication and unwavering commitment to protecting our freedoms and way of life should never be forgotten. As a school community, let us pause to express our deepest gratitude to these courageous individuals and their families.
In gratitude,
Angie James, Principal

SPORTS PHYSICALS FOR SULLIVAN AND BHS STUDENTS HOSTED AT SMS!
Sports Physical Screening Event Survey BUSD is partnering with CSUSM's School of Nursing to host a sports physical screening day. If your child will be participating in sports on the SMS or BHS campus for the 2024-2025 school year, they will need to have a sports physical completed. We know that it can be challenging for families to book appointments for sports physicals. In an effort to support our community and support students participating in on campus sports, we have decided to host an event that will allow your child to be screened for their sports physical on our SMS/BHS campus. This screening day will be held on a Saturday during the summer break. The physical will be good for an entire year! The physician we are working with needs to have an estimate on how many students may be participating in the screening. This will allow for appropriate staffing to guarantee the screenings are done in a timely manner. Please complete this google form by May 20th so we can plan for the event.
Please click on the link below to access the survey.

Wildcat Families:
We are looking for feedback to help improve your school experience! We thank you and your family for being our valued partners as we work together to educate the children in our district. Over the next several weeks, we will be asking for students in grades 3-12 to reflect on their school experience and on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online questionnaire they will be completing at school. The questionnaire shouldn’t take more than 20 minutes to complete.
The questionnaire will ask students to self-reflect on Student Competency and Well-Being Measures (such as growth mindset and self-efficacy) and on Student Supports and Environment (such as school safety, sense of belonging, and school climate). The questions can be previewed here:
Students Grades 3-5: English here or in Spanish here.
Students Grades 6-12: English here or in Spanish here.
We are asking that all of our students participate, as their responses will provide invaluable insights into their experiences and how we can improve and adapt our district to their needs. If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. The responses to the individual questions will be completely confidential.
In addition, we are asking that our parents/guardians respond to questions about their experiences and perceptions of their child’s school. Your participation is completely confidential and anonymous, which means that no one at your school will ever see your individual responses. Please take your time to give honest and thoughtful answers.
You may use a computer, tablet, or smartphone to access the questions.
Please click the following link and enter the access code for your child's school: The questionnaire will be open from May 21-31st.

STATE TESTING
Hello parents!
We are fast approaching our state testing for the 23-24 school year. The CAASPP ( California Assessment of Student Performance) is important because it is used as an indicator and measurement of ability not just by BUSD but Universities and other colleges. Students will be asked to participate in this assessment every year from grades 3 to 8 and then students will be asked to take the assessment again in 11 grade.
The teachers and students have been working hard all year learning the state standards within each subject area. The students have also been working especially hard these last few weeks of the year. A few teachers have send reminder emails to inform parents about our state testing coming up in the next few weeks.
I have put the dates and subjects that will be testing in the upcoming days. I have also included a link to general information about the CAASPP testing to help answer any general questions you may have. If you have any questions please call the office or send me an email.
Parents we will need your help during these times to make sure the students are:
- Charging their Chromebooks and brining their chargers.
- Good night sleep.
- Please talk with them about keeping their cell phones off and in their backpack or cell phone holder in the classroom, especially during the state testing window.
- Encourage them to do their best!
Thank you always parents for your support!
