Picnic on the Playground - Monday, June 3rd!
Let's celebrate the end of the school year and the coming of summer with a
B.Y.O. PICNIC & BOOK SWAP!
Monday, June 3rd - 5:30-7:00
Bring your own picnic dinner, dessert, or snack to enjoy on the playground
while playing and connecting with other L&C friends.
This year we will have a slimmed down version of "Bookin' Into Summer".
Students are welcome to bring books for the swap to school May 28th-June 3rd.
Families can also bring books to the picnic on June 3rd.
We will provide music and tables to display books.
Start checking your shelves for age appropriate kid books your family has outgrown
and make space for new ones that you find at the book swap! Books at the swap should be appropriate for KG-5th grade, be in gently used condition (cover on, no rips or tears or coloring on pages). Please do NOT bring or send coloring, activitiy, sticker or religious books, magazines or adult titles. Please note: selection & number of books available will be based on the books donated.
2024-2025 Kindergarten Registration Continues!
Who: Students who will turn 5 years old on or before 9/10/24.
What: Things you will need to gather in preparation for registration: Child’s Birth Certificate, Completed Immunization Record, Two Forms of Proof of Address (utility bill, phone bill, lease agreement)
Kindergarten Registration is a lengthy process involving quite a bit of paperwork. We know people are busy, and it is hard to spare time to fill out the paperwork here at school. In order to save you time, the forms will be available online. You are welcome to bring in your completed forms with your other documents or fill them out here at the school.
Please visit www.mcpsmt.org for updated registration dates and details. Please Note: Kindergarten Registration is NOT complete until all of the paperwork and documents are turned in and reviewed by your school secretary!
From the Principal's Office
L&C Families,
I want to extend my most profound appreciation to all our parents, family members and community members who actively participate in the many events, programs, field trips, activities and celebrations at Lewis & Clark throughout the school year. Your engagement and support are invaluable in shaping the educational experience of our students and school community. You demonstrate your commitment to their growth and development by attending these events, volunteering numerous hours, and supporting our work from home. Your presence enriches their learning journey and strengthens the bond between home and school. Thank you for partnering with us and embracing the belief that education is collaborative. Your involvement fosters a sense of togetherness and unity within our school community not only this year, but every year! We are sincerely grateful and wish you and your family a fabulous summer!
Best,
Alanna
Counselor's Corner: A Note From Ms. Myers
Social Emotional Learning in the Summer
Social-emotional learning doesn’t stop when the school year does; in fact, summer presents many opportunities for kids to continue to strengthen their SEL skills!
Social-emotional learning encompasses skills including self-awareness, social-awareness, self-management, relationships, and responsible decision making.
Here are just a few ideas of how your family can practice SEL this summer.
Play games: games help us practice teamwork, communication, and kindness.
Write sidewalk messages: write positive messages and positive self-talk statements.
Spend time outside: walking in the garden or neighborhood is a chance to practice mindfulness, breathing, and coping skills.
Read-alouds: books are full of opportunities to talk about problem solving, emotions (what zone are the characters in), and social skills.
Story telling/writing/drawing: give your kids an SEL topic and let the creativity flow! Stories could be about kindness, courage, or perseverance. Take turns sharing.
Have a beautiful, rested, connected summer! Be sure to reach out before break if you’d like more ideas about incorporating SEL into your summer.

Attendance Superstars!
As we head into the final full month of the schoolyear, we want to champion attendance and students getting to school everyday. There is lots of important learning in the month of May, along with many class activities, field trips and school-wide events that students will not want to miss.
Please help your child finish the year strong by showing up!
We will recognize our "Attendance Superstars" the last week of school in June. Our "Attendance Superstars" are those students who have missed two days or less all year with on time attendance.
Thank you for supporting your child's learning by supporting their attendance!

PTA Highlights from the Year and Thanks!
Dear Lewis and Clark families,
As we reflect on the end of the school year we are grateful for all of the support and help of our Lewis and Clark families! Our PTA could not run without you, and we would therefore not be able to support our teachers and students like we do! With your help throughout the year, we were able to give out nearly $18,000 in grants to our teachers for their classrooms, student projects and field trips. We were able to donate back to our community by giving to the Food Bank and to the ROW reading program. We funded half of our Family Resource Center staff, helped with the MCT play, led the clean up and funding of the Outdoor Discovery Corp (ODC) and provided many special meals and treats for our staff!
Already looking ahead to next year, we are exploring a request brought to us by the Lewis & Clark student council to purchase and install permanent shade structures for the school playground with money we have raised through the Lewis & Clark Jog-a-Thon and Coffee Toffee Tea fundraisers. We love being able to work directly with our students and because of your support of the PTA whether fundraising, donations, time or helping with some of our activities and fundraisers, we are able to do so much for our students, staff and school! THANK YOU! We’d love to see new faces join the PTA, and there are always opportunities to volunteer with the PTA!
One more note of thanks: to the incredibly generous parents who helped out with staff appreciation at the beginning of May! From cleaning the staff lounge and door-decorating to bringing food or yummy drinks to share! An extra big shout out to Martinez Family & Southern Charm Catering & Confections, one of our Lewis & Clark families who provided an amazing full breakfast to the staff and a heartfelt thank you to Green Source who provided free smoothies to Lewis & Clark staff! Thank you for helping us make OUR staff feel special!
Have a wonderful summer! See you in the fall at our all school, open house and ice cream social as well as our Jog-a-Thon!
With gratitude,
