Falcon Flyer
Belong. Inspire. Grow.
Straight from the Hardt
Hello Ridgeline Families-- Something I never take for granted is having the privilege of working in a new school that has windows in nearly every room that provide beautiful sunlight and amazing views of the mountains and hills that surround our valley. I’m drafting my email today in Mrs. Ferguson’s classroom in the B-wing with North facing windows. Today, under clear blue skies I can see Mt. Spokane topped with snow.
Ridgeline High School is the product of a supportive community who saw a need to provide the appropriate space necessary for all of our Central Valley high school students. As we optimistically await the final results of the Levy, it reaffirms my role as a steward of this facility, our resources, and the important service we provide to our students and families. As a tax-payer myself, I get it. It pains me to pay my property tax bill every year. A couple of things I think about, in regard to the portion that goes to schools, helps give me perspective. First, it is true that it is an investment in our most important commodity, our children. That matters a great deal to me. Second, in my role as principal, I can have a positive impact on how those resources are utilized. Finally, I put myself into any parent or community members shoes and consider how they might be thinking, and ask, “am I doing my best in service of the stakeholders who I am responsible for?”. The product and service we provide should be something to be proud of and to promote a high degree of confidence. When the Ridgeline Staff comes to work they know that our own mission is at the heart of what we do. Promote a sense of Belonging. Ignite a spark and Inspire the desire to learn. Build a foundation and foster experiences where all students can Grow into adults we want to live and work in our community tomorrow.
I noticed my message is getting long and I haven’t even got to my highlights yet! Thank you for reading this message.
What a great night we had last Saturday with the winter formal dance. We had about 600 students and guests who showed up looking good and ready to have some fun. Everyone was great during the dance and you had to try hard not to have fun with so many friends and classmates around you!
On Monday, we celebrated six seniors who are heading to college and planning to play a sport at their respective schools. We had students representing multiple sports, including Owen, who will be swimming for Kenyon College.
This week has been a roller-coaster ride for our boys and girls basketball teams who both will battle on Saturday to earn a bid to state! We sent Tyson and Preston to Tacoma for wrestling and wish them luck!
Our connection week was fun and highlighted by staff handing out Hershey Kisses to students as they arrived at school Valentine’s morning.
You really don’t want to miss the rest of the many cool things happening, so take a skim over today’s Flyer.

Running Start: MANDATORY MEETING for NEW Running Start Students and Parents/Guardians
Last month, on January 24, Ridgeline hosted a virtual Running Start/Dual Credit meeting in which we provided a brief survey of dual credit options in Advanced Placement (AP) and Running Start options for the Community Colleges of Spokane (CCS) and Eastern Washington University (EWU). With both the CCS and EWU Running Start applications now open, we turn our attention to registering interested new students for the program. To that end, we will host a MANDATORY MEETING on Wednesday, February 21, at 6:00 PM in the Ridgeline Theater. If your student will be new to the Running Start program, please plan to attend this meeting with your student, as we will more deeply explore the program, its finer details, and the responsibilities associated with participation. Please Note: student and parent/guardian participation is required before your student’s counselor will sign-off on the applications’ counselor forms. If you have questions, please contact Mr. Spraggins (bspraggins@cvsd.org), Ms. Fuller (afuller@cvsd.org), or Ms. Plaster (kplaster@cvsd.org).
