Dear Students & Families,
I want to wish all of you a very Happy Thanksgiving. Whether you are staying in our beautiful valley, or traveling farther afield, I hope that you are able to spend time with family and friends, get outside, and find quiet moments of reflection and gratitude. Please remember that the holiday season can be very difficult for some people. Please reach out if you or someone you know struggles at this time of year. You may call the Colorado Crisis Service 24/hr hotline at 1-844-493-8255 or Text “TALK” to 38255, or call the Aspen Hope Center Hopeline at 970-925-5858.
Enjoy this time away from school, and we will see you in December.
IB Spotlight
IB Environmental Systems and Societies (ESS) students are deep in the study of the water cycle and food production systems from our oceans. Students recently wrapped up their Independent Assessments (IA's) and they covered a variety of topics from particulate matter to dissolved oxygen in our local waterways. Teal Bishop and Maeve Sheehan took their IA's with them this past summer as they explored soil and water in their favorite vacation spots. Chris Seeman has discovered a passion for Environmental Studies and hopes to pursue this major as he heads off to college next year.
IB MYP Spotlight: 10th Grade Personal Project
10th-graders are working hard to make final edits to Criterion A of their Personal Project reports, which are due November 22nd.
Students will continue to work towards their learning and product goals, submit Criterion B, and bring their finished products to school on December 20th.
Once students return to school after winter break, they will reflect on their products and their process as they write Criterion C of their report. They are required to submit their report no later than January 16th.
The 10th-graders' hard work will be celebrated on February 12th when students present their projects and products at a Community Showcase in the Skier Dome. Parents and community members will be invited to attend.

⭐Diane Godfrey and the entire Career Technical Education (CTE) team had a wonderful CTE Community Breakfast last week. Our CTE Director, Sheri Smith (Business), ensures we have viable pathways for students to earn credit, certifications, while overseeing the financial and grant writing opportunities. Sarah Ward (Journalism), Anita Moose (IT), Steve Sand (Business), Dan Perl (Outdoors), David Clark (Culinary), Brent Maiolo (Outdoors), John Fisher (Construction), and Kate Short (Aviation) ensure our students have opportunities to learn and grow. Students, who represented all of our pathways, spoke to our community partners about what the CTE program has meant to them. To learn more, please read some of the press coverage.
⭐Congratulations to the following choir students who participated in the Colorado Choral Directors Select Honor Choir in Grand Junction this week. Students were selected to perform alongside the top choir students from all over the Western Slope. After a long day of rehearsals, they performed a beautiful concert! Bravo and congratulations to Eleanor Carroll, Khalil Khan-Farooqi, Annika Lundeen, Charlie Nottingham and James Nottingham.

NEXT ROUND OF DEADLINES & THANKSGIVING OFFICE CLOSURE
The next round of college application deadlines is right around the corner, and seniors are encouraged to schedule meetings this week with either Karen or Brennan to make sure they are on track for the University of California and Cal State December 2nd deadlines and regular decision deadlines on December 1st, 2nd and beyond. Keep in mind that the Post-Secondary Counseling office is closed during Thanksgiving break - please plan ahead so that we can support you. We highly recommend that students submit their Cal State and UC applications this week. PROCTORED PRACTICE SAT | Wednesday, December 4th
Your Post-Secondary Counselors highly encourage juniors to take a practice SAT before the School Day SAT in April. A free proctored practice SAT is being offered after school on Wednesday, December, 4th from 2:15-5:00 pm. Students need to register for this practice test via this link. Upon completion, students will receive an analysis of test results. Students who cannot take the practice test at school on December 4th, can register to take the test at home (self-proctored) between December 4th and 8th. Students with approved accommodations, who want to take the practice test, should register for the at home version. Stay tuned for information regarding special sessions for juniors in March with a professional test-prep tutor.
INDIVIDUAL MEETINGS
All Juniors are encouraged to schedule an individual meeting with their Post-Secondary Counselor for after Thanksgiving. Students with last names beginning A-K will work with Karen Hawkes, L-Z with Brennan Dignan. Parents are welcome (but not required) to join the meeting either in person or virtually. Please note, meetings may not be scheduled during class time, but rather during SET, lunch or a free period. Before the 1st Individual Meeting, both students and parents are asked to complete short intake surveys. Intake for Students|Intake for Parents.

Freshman/Sophomore & Parent Post-Secondary Planning Night
Underclassmen and their parents are invited to learn about what students can be focusing on now to prepare for success after high school. Live Spanish interpretation will be available.
Illness and Attending school, sports, and activities
Students who stay home due to illness, may not attend sports practice or games.
Parents need to come get their sick student from school; no RFTA, no walking, no getting a ride with friends, etc.
If a senior is deemed well enough to operate their vehicle, and the parents give permission for them to drive themselves, then we can allow that. By well enough, they should not be dizzy, lightheaded, throwing up, etc.

No Dogs on Campus
We love dogs, but please leave your furry friends at home if you are attending an event on campus, picking up your student, or just dropping by. We may only have Certified Service dogs accompany our campus visitors. Thank you for understanding.

Seniors!! Class of 2025!!
The yearbook aims to provide a variety of senior coverage and there are certain traditions that we plan to continue this year, including senior portraits. Senior portraits are an opportunity for seniors to move away from the traditional school photo and submit their own photo to the yearbook. These must be vertical portrait-style photos. Many local photographers can be hired for this purpose, but it is not necessary. If your student would like to work with our photography team, please do not hesitate to reach out and we will set them up with a student photographer.
Seniors also select a quote to place under their photo in the yearbook. The quote must be school appropriate and short enough to fit under their photo.
Senior photos and quotes will be due on December 1.
To submit Senior photos, email the jpg file to yearbookphotos81611@gmail.com.
Please include the quote in the email as well.
Additionally, Senior Recognition Ads are on sale now. If you have a senior you would like to recognize, please use this link.
Travel Opportunity!! Ecuador!!
Students, join Kate Korn & Cory Parker for an adventure! They are really excited to share that they are planning another EF tour trip next summer, 2025... to Ecuador!
When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on this adventure.
There are limited spots on this trip. Contact Kate Korn at kkorn@aspenk12.net, to learn more about this exciting opportunity!
