About 509J’s emergency closures and delays process for inclement weather
The first information on any delays or closures will occur over the school district’s communications platform. Please ensure your contact information is up to date with your child’s school so you get these updates first. JCSD 509J is now using ParentSquare for school-to-home communication. This unified communications platform is designed to keep parents and guardians informed and encourage greater engagement and connection with 509J. To sign in, click on the button.
Messages will also be posted to the district’s social media pages. You can find links to those on this page.
Furnish Hope - Holiday Give Away

This time they are giving away holiday decorations to help your family get into the spirit of the season. Students need to take all their belongings to the locker room for practice and games, locking up all possessions. Items that will not fit in the sports locker should be locked in the PE office.
Please plan to meet your child at the WSK8 back parking lot at the estimated return time. Players will call with exact time when they leave the school.
Students who are not picked up on time will be unable to play Basketball for WSK8.
All drinks need to be in containers that can be sealed. Please refer to the Guidelines for Activity Bus in the Athletic Handbook for additional rules on the bus.
B Teams will play first followed by A Teams.
7th grade A/B teams will play HOME games at the old elementary school gym.
Practice may be held at WSK8, and or the old elementary school gym.
Girls Basketball and Wrestling Begin After Winter Break
Sign ups for both girls basketball and wrestling will take place during the month of December. Students can show interest in participating by signing up with Mr. Vrana, our PE teacher/Athletic Director. In order to participate students need to have all paperwork completed which includes guardian permission and a current sports physical. Sports physicals are good for two years and can be obtained at IHS, the MHS School Based Health Center, or your local care provider. Copies of paperwork is in the school office.
Athletics and Academics
This year our athletic eligibility aligns with JCMS and MHS. Student athletes need to be passing each class to be eligbile for competition. Each Friday we run a grade check and our athletic director meets with students who have one or more F. Students who have at least one F in any class are on probation the next week. Probation means they can practice and compete while they work to bring up their grade. When students have an F in any class for two or more weeks in a row they move to an ineligible status where they can practice but they can not compete. After 4 weeks in a row of an F in any class, students will not be eligible to practice or compete.
To help students with their academics we offer a student-athlete study hall after school Monday - Friday from 3 - 4 pm in our school library.
Students also have a REACH class which is 30 minutes Tuesday - Friday during the school day where they are able to complete assignments and get extra help from their teachers.
Winter Break Monday, December 23rd ~ Friday, January 3rd
There will be no school for winter break from Monday, December 23rd through Friday, January 3rd. We look forward to seeing all students back at school on Monday, January 6th.
