From the Desk of the Principal
Hello HHS Families!
As we enter into the second trimester, we want to share an important update to our school bell schedule that will begin on Monday, December 2nd. The new schedule was developed to better meet the needs of our school community by focusing on the following goals:
Provide more opportunities for students to travel to teachers for help with assignments, reteaching, and clarification.
Protect core instructional time by shifting non-instructional tasks like meetings and logistical needs to the Advisory period.
Offer consistent routines that support both learning and core competency growth.
With these goals in mind, the schedule (see the image below) was able to accomplish the following:
Daily Consistency: We’re moving to a single schedule that stays the same daily, Monday through Friday. This change eliminates the variations in our current schedule and makes it easier for everyone to plan their day.
Balanced Class Times: All class periods now have the same instructional time, ensuring fairness and predictability across the school day.
Dedicated Advisory Time: Each day includes a 30-minute Advisory period where students can connect with teachers for academic support, complete assignments, and build strong relationships.
Teachers introduced the new schedule to students on Tuesday, November 26th, so everyone is ready to switch after Thanksgiving break.
We’re looking forward to our new daily bell schedule and are confident it will benefit our students!
Thank you,
Mr. Curl
2nd Trimester Reminders
- 24-25 Cell Phone Policy: Cell phones and other electronic devices are prohibited during class time. Instructional time is from the bell start to end of the period. Cell phones are not allowed to be used or visible during this time. They are also strictly prohibited in bathrooms, locker rooms, and dressing rooms. For a full review of this policy, please go to pages 48-49 of the HHS Student Handbook.
- Bags/Backpacks - Students are not allowed to use bags and backpacks once the school day begins at 7:24 a.m. This includes traveling to and from PE lockers. This policy will be adhered to across the building and includes bags of any size. For a full review of this policy, please go to page 59 of the HHS Student Handbook.
- Tardiness Policy - A tardy is defined as a student not being in the classroom when the bell rings. Excessive tardiness—six (6) or more unexcused tardies—violates Holly Schools' truancy policy and may result in disciplinary actions such as detentions, online intervention modules, or out-of-school suspension (OSS).For a full review of this policy, please go to page 63 of the HHS Student Handbook.
- Dance Eligibility - A discipline referral that occurs at school, on district transportation, at extracurricular activities or events that leads to a suspension will impact students' ability to attend the next school dance on the calendar. Example: A student suspension in November will impact their eligibility for Snowcoming in February. A student suspension in June will impact their eligibility for Homecoming in the following Fall. For a full review of this policy, please go to page 32 of the HHS Student Handbook.
REMINDER: Any detentions assigned during Trimester 1 that have not yet been served will carry over to Trimester 2. Completing assigned detentions is essential, as failure to do so will result in restrictions such as:
- Ineligibility to purchase dance tickets
- Possible exclusion from field trips and in-school events like plays and talent shows
- Additional disciplinary action
Detentions are held Monday through Thursday in the Teal Pod, Room 141, from 2:30 - 3:30 PM.
If you have any questions, please contact your child's assistant principal, A-K Mrs. Wachowski, L-Z, and Mr. Lakin.

Generation Museums in Sociology!
Students in Mrs. Rapin's sociology class conducted research to create museums to represent generations. They brought in artifacts to represent technology, fashion, inventions, etc. from the era. Students created information cards, timelines, and displays to inform their audience about the generation and create a mini interactive museum.

Undercover Spirit Week - For Staff ONLY
Last week our staff participated in a fun spirit week designed for staff only! Students were kept in the dark from what was occurring but quickly caught on as they noticed what their teachers were wearing. Some of the spirit days for the week included: blackout day (dress in all black), mismatch day and socks with sandals day. What a fun week!
