Superintendent’s Weekly Update
June 10, 2022
Budget Adoption
THE NEWLY PROPOSED BUDGET:
• Represents a tax levy increase of 1.5%. This is a reduction from the initial proposal that carried a tax levy increase of 2.14%.
• Includes the use of $2.5 million in fund balance to help offset the tax levy impact to the community.
• Maintains class sizes within the district guidelines.
• Supports the district’s continuing initiatives, such as the new math, science and social-emotional learning programs, as well as project-based learning and career exploration opportunities, among others.
• Funds a number of partnerships with various external agencies/universities, including the Adelphi STEP program, Adelphi University Residency program, the Nassau Community College Dual Enrollment program and the NYU Langone Envision Scholar program, to name a few.
THE PROPOSAL REPRESENTS A REDUCTION OF $256,000 FROM THE INITIAL BUDGET.
IN ADDITION TO USING MORE FUND BALANCE, WHAT WAS REDUCED?
• Realignment of middle and high school administrative staffing due to the creation of a secondary school.
• Additional savings from retirements not known when initial budget was developed.
• Negotiation of teachers' contract.
• Actual costs of insurance premiums. This cost is less than the estimate provided to the district when the initial budget was presented.
• Elimination/reduction of some administrative software.
