Principal Nook: Greene Intermediate

From Mr. Sabol
Hello Greene Intermediate family! I apologize for the pause of newsletters as I used up my free trial. Now that we have a subscription we can get rolling again and keeping you in the know!! What an amazing end of the year it was! When I inquired about all the amazing and fun adventures and activities this building does I was told to "hold on! as it was one heck of a ride" I responded with "hold on? no way! Arms will be up the whole time"! And what a ride it was! Even with the heat keeping us from having field days outside our amazing staff was flexible and planned indoor fun without missing a beat!
I will be publishing another newsletter later this summer with back to school information, reminders, important dates, and exciting news! One sneak peak is that an official Recess time has been added to our school schedule for this upcoming year! More info to come! Stay cool and safe!
STEAM/LIBRARY
Mrs. Zick had students research endangered animals and had them research and do a PSA on it. Using a green screen some great videos were produced with some fun pictures as well!
4TH GRADE TRIP TO CHENANGO VALLEY STATE PARK
On May 21st fourth graders spent a beautiful day at Chenango Valley State Park where we hiked, explored nature and spent the afternoon running around and playing with friends. It was a great day!
CHAIN REACTION MACHINES
Students in Ms. Sanderson’s science class, learned all about energy, energy transfer and simple machines and concluded the unit by building chain reaction machines, otherwise known as Rube Goldberg machines. Students worked together to create a “machine” with multiple steps (energy transfers) that would end by opening a sign and revealing a message. These students had to do a great deal of problem solving, predicting, and experimentation to get their machines to work.
TINY HOUSES
Mr. Eggleston's class had a blast using Area and Perimeter to design and build "tiny houses" A great way to show how math is used in the real world with engineering and design.
NATURAL DISASTERS
Mrs. Braman's and Ms. Sandersons 4th grade classes
Fourth Grade students in Mrs. Braman’s and Ms. Sanderson’s class have been working hard on a natural disaster project. After a unit in science about how the shape of the earth can change in many different ways, students began researching a natural disaster of their choice using library books and websites. Once they gathered all of their information, students wrote their own 5-7 paragraph report. Then students came together with a partner to create a slideshow presentation. The final step of this project was to present their slideshow to a third or fourth grade class. These students worked diligently on this project for several months and learned so many things!
WORM STUDIES
The 5th Grade students have been studying worms for the last few weeks in Science class. Learning about their role in our ecosystem (decomposers) and observing their own Red Worms. They did experiments to find out if these worms prefer light/dark or wet/dry conditions. Student groups then created their own experiments to answer questions they still had about worms!
