Waipawa School
Term 3, Week 10, 28th September 2022
At Waipawa we value:
PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Kia ora koutou,
We're nearly at the end of the wettest Term I have ever experienced at a school - it would be nice to end the Term with a run of fine sunny days but I'm not sure we will.
Term 3 has been a busy Term. It's been great that all the traditional events have taken place and we are so appreciative for the Whānau support with these. Our staff have also done an amazing job organising and attending these many events. The events continue with the Ngāti Whai festival taking place in Waipukurau today. Our Ngāti Whai group have been working hard and Mr Burne, Matua Hayden and Matua Hunia have done an awesome job preparing them for their performance today. They sound amazing and I'm sure they will put in a performance to be extremely proud of.
I know the school breaks can be a stressful time for families; juggling work and looking after your children. I hope the next two weeks go well for everyone. We're looking forward to Term 4 and all that the final term of a year brings.
Ngā mihi nui,
Paul Jamieson

A small group of students also attended the Hawkes Bay Primary Schools Cross Country Champs on Tuesday. A huge congratulations to Dylan Smith who finish 1st in a field of 70+ students, and to Sam Mooney who placed 5th. It was a great challenge for our students to compete against strong runners, many of whom compete in Harrier events.

WPS - Enrolment Zone Ballot
The Waipawa Primary School Board invites applications from parents who wish to enrol their sons and daughters at Waipawa Primary School for 2023. Enrolment at the school is governed by an enrolment scheme, details of which are available from the school office or can be found on the school website.
The deadline for receipt of applications for out-of-zone places is Thursday 20 October 2022.
Whanau of students who live within the home zone should also apply by this date to assist the school to plan appropriately for the next year.
The Board has determined that five (5) places are likely to be available for out-of-zone students next year. These places are all at the New Entrant / Year 1 level of the school. The exact number of places will depend on the number of applications received from students who live within the school’s home zone.
If the number of out-of-zone applications exceeds the number of places available students will be selected by ballot.
If a ballot is required it will be held on Wednesday 26 October 2022.
Whanau will be informed of the outcome of the ballot within three school days of the ballot being held.

If you are late, you are going to an appointment, you have been to an appointment or a student is away from school.
If your child is not attending school for any reason please make contact with either the school office or the classroom teacher by phone, using the Hero App or Seesaw. Relying on siblings to inform us often doesn't work.
Mystery Break Raffle
The winners of the Mystery Break Raffle were drawn last week at the PTA meeting in front of 8 members.
The winners are as follows:
1st Prize: Kath Ritchie
2nd Prize: Stephen Wairoa
Congratulations to our winners and a huge thank you to all of those who sold and bought the tickets - amazing effort. Funds made from the Pie Fundraising and Mystery Raffle will be in our next Whanau & Friends Newsletter next term.

STARTING SCHOOL : 4 Year Old Mornings
- We find 4 visits before starting school is usually sufficient. However, if your child requires more we would be in close communication with you.
- Whanau are welcome to stay for the first visit and leave when the child / parent feels comfortable. Subsequent visits we ask that parents be brave and leave so that the child experiences what school is like.
- Please pack a snack for brainfood (fruit, sandwich, muesli bar) and something for morning tea.
- Children can wear mufti clothing or school uniform if they have it available.
Please don't hesitate to pop in and see us if you have any questions or concerns.
