Volume 3, Issue 8, May 2015
Message from the Principal
Summer is quickly coming upon us, but the reality is that this is one of the busiest times of the school year. Spring sports are in full swing, award ceremonies for academics and sports are scheduled and the yearbook is ready to be distributed. Of course, we can't forget that finals, Baccalaureate and graduation are just around the corner.
With all of these activities scheduled please remind your child to finish the year strong. We may only have 12 days of school in the month of May, but those days can make a big difference in your child's grades. As a parent, make sure they get to school each day and that they continue to stay up-to-date and work hard in all of their classes.
Come out and cheer on our students in athletics and activities. We also hope to see everyone at our Graduation this year on Tuesday, May 19th at 7:00 pm. This is a change from past years.
My office is always open and I appreciate hearing your opinions or suggestions. My goal is to be responsive to what our parents and community want and need. Please give me a call or come in and chat.
Sincerely,
Douglas Waclawski
Principal

Nurse's Corner
Every year HHS nurses complete vision, hearing and growth screening on students. 10th and 12th grade students have growth screening which is height, weight and body mass index; 9th and 11th grade students have vision and hearing, in addition to growth screening. If students have had a sports physical, we do not screen for growth and vision as these screenings were already done at the student’s clinic.
If your child’s hearing or vision were not in the normal range, we have already contacted you. If you would like to know your child’s growth screening, please email or call the HHS nurses, Ella May Copper-Waldron, RN, and Sharon Gorman, RN, at 235-4626 or ecooper-waldron@kpbsd.k12.ak.us or sgorman@kpbsd.k12.ak.us.
All graduating seniors receive a copy of their vaccination records with the nurse’s signature in their graduation packets.
