Living Wax Museum
The 4th grade classrooms proudly presents the Living Wax Museum!
What is a Living Wax Museum?
A Living Wax Museum is very similar to a real wax museum in that visitors can come and learn about a variety of famous people. The main difference is that the students will be standing in as the statues.
Each student has chosen a famous scientist mentioned in our read aloud book as a topic for their Genius Hour project. After doing research, they will choose important facts and write a brief speech about their person. The afternoon of the Museum, the students will get dressed as their person and recite their speech to interested visitors.
What can I do to help my child prepare?
There are several things you can do at home to help your child prepare for the Living Wax Museum.
First, please help your child gather the items and props they need that will help them look like their famous scientist. Next, help them practice their speech so they are ready to share on the afternoon of the performance. Also, help them work on movements, mannerisms and the sound of their voice that will create a realistic portrayal of their famous person.
When will the Living Wax Museum open?
The Living Was Museums will take place on:
MARCH 12th, 2019 from 6:00 - 6:45
All three 4th grade classes will be participating in this memorable event, but each on separate days. The presenters will be spread out around the main halls and in the gymnasium presenting their famous person.
*More information will be coming home soon, but we wanted you to be able to save the date!*

Wax Museum – Genius Hour Speech and Performance Guidelines
- Speech must be written and delivered in 1st person
- Example: I was the first person to discover…
- Introduction: Be creative and engaging. It’s a hook! Do NOT start your speech with, “Hi. My name is…..” Ideas: Actions, story, quote.
- Memorized length should be 90-120 seconds
- You need to have actions and planned movements throughout the speech that add to your audience’s entertainment and add to your quality speech, not taking away or distracting from your speech content. These actions could include pointing or holding a prop.
- You should already be planning what your pose will be, as it will have to tie into your speech intro and movements.
- Your pose can not be in a seated position of any kind
· Examples of Phases you might use during the body of your speech:
"Did you know that I......"
“When I was/did/saw _____________, I was so happy/nervous/etc.”
“You might find this interesting….”
“Check out this interesting fact about me….”
· Conclusion: Leave your audience with a quote, an interesting thought, or something to think about.
Final Thoughts:
- Be witty, funny, engaging.
- Get into the emotion of the character and the emotions they would have felt at the time.
- Have voice inflection and enthusiasm
- It's a PERFORMANCE, not a speech
Meet a few of the people being chosen...
whomever your child has chosen...we all look forward to seeing their Wax Museum Figure.
