January 19, 2025
I hope this message finds you well! As a reminder, there will be no school on Monday in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. We look forward to welcoming all of our Cubs back on Tuesday morning for another great week at Crosswell.
Last night, I had the pleasure of watching our students in YAMs participate in the Winter Jubilee. They did a fantastic job, and I have thoroughly enjoyed seeing their growth throughout this first year of the program at our school.
This week is expected to bring some very cold weather, so please ensure your child comes to school with a warm jacket.
We are also excited to host our next All Pro Dad meeting on Thursday morning at 7:00 a.m. We are thrilled to welcome Mr. Nate Roper, the principal at DMS, as our guest speaker. We hope you can join us for this special event!
Thank you for your continued support. We are looking forward to another wonderful week at Crosswell!
Warmest regards,
Andrew Shipman, Principa

Habit #4 Think Win-Win
Our habit for the month of January is Habit #4: Think Win-Win. When people think win-win they try to find solutions that are fair to everyone. People who exhibit this habit are unselfish, fair, and respectful of everyone. They don't look at every opportunity as a competition rather than a way to work as a team.

Supporting Students with Math at Home
Number Sense
Number Sense is the ability to understand, relate to, and connect numbers. Students should be able to easily manipulate (decompose) numbers and use mental mathematics. Children need opportunities to learn and experience numbers through repeated experiences to build fluency with numbers.
Ways to Build Number Sense at Home
- Talk about a number of the day/week and the different ways to represent it (word form, tallies, counters, basic addition fact- i.e., 3 + 2 = 5, etc.)
- Count out loud starting at one and building to higher and higher numbers.
- Have your child practice counting objects around the house or while riding in the car.
- Matching numbers using a deck of cards and then counting out the number of items to represent the number.
- Practice one more and one less using counters (i.e., beans, blocks/Legos, beads, cotton balls, etc.)
- Roll two dice and practice adding or subtracting basic facts.
- Use cards to determine greater than, less than, or equal to (flip over two cards and discuss which number is greater than, less than, or if the numbers are equal).

Cub Tales at CWE!
Crosswell is excited to partner, again, with United Way of Pickens County to provide our Cub Tales' Program! This is a wonderful opportunity for those in the community with children 3 years old and younger. During this time, we follow the Palmetto Basics (see link below) to help families provide enriching opportunities for students through literacy. The Basics are 5 fun, simple, and powerful ways that every parent and caregiver can give every child a great start in life! These basics are simple and for everyone and are based on decades of research! Join us for Cub Tales!
