Hazelwood To Home
Learning In Community
March 3, 2021
Hazelwood Families,
We are busy preparing for students to return back into the building starting as early as March 22nd, which is just a few weeks away. As promised, this letter will give updates and current information regarding this process. The following events are taking place behind the scenes to make the return to school successful. We are excited to see students again in person and also are working to make the remote learning environment as consistent as possible.
February 19th-23rd- Families indicated their intent for remote or in-person.
February 19th-23rd- Staff indicated their intent for remote or in-person to Edmonds School District Human Resources.
February 24th-March 2nd- Mrs. Lee reviewed the family response numbers and determined the number of classes needed for in person (hybrid) and for remote. This information was submitted to Edmonds School District Human Resources.
March 2nd-March 5th- Edmonds School District Human Resources matches teachers to grade level assignments.
March 2nd-5th- Hazelwood makes plans for lunches, recesses, entry, and dismissal procedures. We also are working on refining safety protocols, family communication opportunities, classroom set up, and signage.
March 8th- Staff are notified of their new grade level assignments. Based on assignments, classes are formed. We will work to maintain consistency for students to the extent we are able. Office staff will enter new class lists into Skyward.
March 9th- Family Webinars with latest updates and information about returning. (See below)
March 10th- Hazelwood families will be notified of class assignments, including who their student’s teacher will be.
March 8th-19th- During this time teachers will be receiving training, setting up classrooms, planning smooth transitions for both remote and in-person classes, creating a new Master Schedule, continued planning for safety protocols, and family communication opportunities.
March 18th-19th- Parent Conferences, Conferences are cancelled for grades K-2 and any teacher who is reforming a remote class. The time will be spent setting up classrooms, training, and refining the details for return.
March 22nd- STAGE 2 Begins, 2nd Grade and IS Classes return in person.
March 29th- 1st Grade returns in person.
April 5th-9th- Spring Break
April 12th- Kindergarten and 3rd-6th grade hubs begin. Please see the article below for more information about 3rd- 6th grade hubs at Hazelwood.
I want to acknowledge that this process is challenging. There are so many unknowns as we navigate this new form of school. As always, I can assure you that student physical and emotional safety is a priority at Hazelwood. I will continue to give updates as we move forward. With this transition, please be checking in with your child to see how they are doing. Our children have been through many changes in the past year and they will adjust to this change as well, but they need us to acknowledge and validate any feelings they are experiencing about the change. Thank you for your continued partnership. We are grateful for all that you are doing!
In partnership,
Mrs. Lee

Hub At Hazelwood: 3rd-6th Grade
Students in grades 3-6 may be eligible to attend a hub beginning April 12th. These hubs are meant for students who have been identified by teachers, counselors, and/or administrators as those who would benefit most from more support. Edmonds School District will determine the number of students who can be served based on space, social distancing, supervision, and transportation. The school district will be giving guidance to schools for the criteria for selecting students. The hubs will be a space in which students can access their Zoom classes, receive assistance as needed, and will provide social-emotional learning to students. The hubs will run the same hours as in-person, hybrid learning. We will provide updates to this opportunity as we receive guidance from the district.
