The Pirate Way
Hello Pirates,
Fall is in the air, and we are excited to share some important updates as we approach the end of the first quarter which is October 11th. We are proud of the hard work our students have put in so far!
We have some exciting events on the horizon, starting with our rivalry game tonight! Next week, we’ll be celebrating Homecoming with our game and dance, followed by the fun and festivities of our Spooktacular event and our OHS Hall of Fame Celebration.
Also, mark your calendars for our upcoming Pirate Achievement Day on October 16th, where we celebrate our students' dedication and achievements. This is such an important day where we concentrate on the importance of each grade level. It’s a great reminder of how important it is for all of us to stay involved, stay active, and stay committed to supporting our students’ success.
Your involvement makes a difference! Whether it’s helping with homework, encouraging your student to stay focused, or participating in school events, every effort helps us create a strong and supportive community. Together, we can ensure our students finish the first quarter strong and continue thriving throughout the school year.
Thank you for being part of the Pirate family!

Pirate Sports Update
From the sports deck:
Girls Tennis earns first victory
The Oceanside girls tennis team used a balanced attack in singles and doubles to defeat host Escondido, 13-5, in Valley League play Thursday afternoon.
No. 1 singles Ani Laren swept all her opponents by scores of 6-0. The No. 1 double team of Fabiola Caudillo and Estefani Rodriguez won two-of-three sets, as did the No. 2 doubles team of Verenice Leon/Andrea Reyes.
Golf sweeps away Mission Vista
It was twice as nice for the Oceanside girls golf team at the Golf Club of America Thursday afternoon.
The Pirates downed Mission Vista, 247-279, for the second time this week. Kassidy Stevens earned match medalist honors for the 10th time this season with a score of 41. Danyele Bertino had a 47 and Vinnie Dvorak had a 51 for OHS, which improved to 3-1 in league and 10-2 overall.
Cross Country teams shine at Mt. Carmel Invite
If you are a serious contender in cross country, then running well at the Mt. Carmel Invitational is a must. The meet is contested at Balboa Park's Morley Field, where the CIF-San Diego Section and National Championships are held each year on a challenging 3-mile course.
So with 51 schools competing from California, Nevada, and Arizona, you better take a deep breath and tie your shoes extra tight because it's going to be competitive and fast.
Oceanside did both and came away with 12 medals with only three runners ever having run the course before this year. Malia Guillen ran a personal best of 19:25, earning third place in the Invitational race. In the boys' varsity grade level race, Alexis Torres (17:34) medaled in the 12-grade race. For the varsity girls, Addison Ashby (21:47), Maya Hernandez (22:25) and Aubrie Johnson (22:29) ran fast enough to gain medalist honors.
The Frosh/Soph boys team surprised everyone with a first-place finish and five medalists. Freshman Buddy Espinoza ran a blistering 17:55 and has now bolted for the varsity roster after his performance. Joshua Silva (18:19), Isaiah Hastings (18:45), Samuel Dubois (19:00) and Tyler Carr (19:21) also took home medals.
Panorama Survey Window
PIRATES,
We’re excited about our student Panorama - SEL Competencies and Supports & Environment surveys to launch next week.
OHS PTSO
We are in urgent need of parents to step into Board Positions for next year. Please contact us if you are interested. PTSO is volunteer run and needs new parents to step in as others "graduate". Our organization fills a lot of gaps in our community to support clubs, CTE pathways, students and our amazing teachers and staff.
For those new to OHS, PTSO includes Parents, Teachers and Students to support the school community. Some of our goals are to promote parent interaction, support the faculty and staff and promote student achievement. Each year is a bit different so we welcome your ideas on ways we can support the school. The donations we receive and the funds we raise go toward staff appreciation events, teacher and club grants, student events, and more. We work closely with our principal Mrs.Garrahy, the administrators and counseling team to be responsive to current needs. All members have a vote in how our funds are used and we have a few openings for leadership positions if you want to give some time.
If you would like to join us or renew your membership for the year, please fill out the form here: OHS PTSO Form . If you are interested in volunteering or serving on the board, please indicate that on the form.
Whether you participate in meetings or not, you can support our efforts with a tax-deductible donation. Please go here: PTSO Donation Page (Paypal or CC) or use our new venmo @osideptso. And please join us for our restaurant nights throughout the year.
We typically meet monthly on the first Wednesday of the month at 6pm. Stay connected with us by joining our Facebook group @Oceanside High School PTSO Parents for Pirates or following us on Instagram @piratesptso. We also encourage you to choose Oceanside High School PTSO as your designated charity in your AmazonSmile account. https://smile.amazon.com/ch/77-0684642
