PCSVA Back-to-School Information

JOIN US for Open House- Tues. Aug. 13
Students will be able to pick up their laptops and meet their teachers during Open House. Please remember that your child must be registered on Infinite Campus AND the laptop fee MUST BE PAID online before you will receive your laptop. Any outstanding fees from the previous school year must also be paid.
PCC Classes Begin Thursday, August 15
Students enrolled in courses through PCC will begin on Thursday, August 15. This is an early start and DOES NOT follow the Person County Schools traditional calendar. All students should have received an email about how to login to their PCC account to access their courses. These courses ARE NOT on Google Classroom. Ms. Emily Davis (davise@person.k12.nc.us) is the new advisor and will be at Open House for any students who have questions.
(ALL Students are REQUIRED to complete online student registration)- This summer, Person County Schools has transitioned away from PowerSchool to the new state-adopted student information system, Infinite Campus. Parents/Guardians should have received communication on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, in an email entitled “ACTION NEEDED: Person County Schools' New Parent Portal and Registration: Infinite Campus” indicating that registration in Infinite Campus is now live along with directions on how to to create a Parent Portal within Infinite Campus and to complete student registration if you have not done so already. Please create your account as soon as possible, as critical information about the start of the school year will be communicated through your Portal Account.
If you need assistance with registration or access to a laptop (it is much easier to complete on a laptop), please visit Student Registration at 304 S. Morgan St or contact Ms. Erica Carr at 336-322-1021 or carre@person.k12.nc.us). Students will not be able to receive their assigned laptop until registration has been completed and fees paid.
One-to-One Laptop Initiative/ Maintenance Fee ($25.00)
We are fortunate to continue our one-to-one laptop initiative. Because the laptop agreement is part of online student registration, this must be completed before a student can have a laptop assigned. Students enrolled at PCSVA are required to have access to reliable Internet.
PCSVA will have GoGuardian, a content filtering and monitoring program, installed on all student computers. Users breaking the rules of the contract may have their privileges revoked.
Person County Schools utilizes Online School Payments (OSP) for payment of ALL school-related fees. School Related Fees in Online School Payment (OSP) include Technology Use, Laptop Insurance, Laptop Damage and Repairs, Library Fees, Parking, Club/Organization Dues, etc.
Please be sure to click "Academy" in the menu then "PCSVA Virtual Academy". Your child DOES NOT attend PHS so please do not pay fees through "Person High".
Construction and Access to PCSVA (3rd floor)
A lot has changed over the summer in regard to the facilities at Person High School. Much work has been completed, but much is still underway. We thank you for your patience as the construction takes place!
The main entrance of the building is not available for access to the building. Instead, visitors are asked to park in the top part of the gym-side lot, walk down the sidewalk toward the building that is lined with fence and labeled “School Entrance”. At the end of the walkway, there are doors that are serving as the entrance to PHS while the front is not accessible. PCSVA students and families will enter through the Visitors Door at the top of the breezeway to enter near the Media Center.
Parent Drop Off & Pick Up and Student Parking
For the 2024-2025 school year, students must be dropped off in front of the gymnasium and not any other building location, such as the front of the school or T-wing lot. Carline is indicated on the map below with yellow arrows. Due to construction, students will enter the building at the entrance indicated by the pink star on the map below.
Student drivers will enter and exit the student parking lot by using the Ridge Road entrance shown in red arrows on the map below.
Visitors to the building will need to park in the upper part of the gym-side lot and enter the building by the media center, indicated by the green star on the map below.
PCSVA students and families will enter through the Visitor Door at the top of the breezeway to enter near the Media Center.
Supply Lists & Schedules
PCSVA will utilize the Google Classroom platform as our learning management system. Each grade level will follow a set schedule which will be linked and provided by your child’s classroom teacher. Grades 6-12 will follow the bell schedule which will be provided during Open House. Student instruction will be provided both in asynchronous (independent) and synchronous (live with teacher) formats. Attendance will be recorded daily and within each period. Cameras are expected to be on so that students are visible during instruction.
We are currently building our schedules for each grade level. Schedules will be available to you for review prior to the first day of school. PCSVA will use Infinite Campus for attendance, grading, and scheduling.
Student Schedule Release
The transition to Infinite Campus impacts how you will view your student’s schedule, grades, and attendance, as well as how families submit student registration information that is requested annually. With the transition, we are delayed in getting student schedules finalized and will update students and families as soon as we have that information ready to share. Thank you for your understanding and patience!
Reminder of Required NC Immunizations
PCS Gazette
Please review the PCS Gazette for district policies and procedures related to communication, inclement weather, student promotion and accountability, parent and student rights, non-discrimination rights, volunteering, the PCS Code of Conduct, dress code, release of student information, administering medication, bus safety rules and regulations, child nutrition, and more!
School Calendars
2024-2025 Calendar (English)
Piedmont Community College Calendar
We align with the traditional school calendar with PCS; the first day for students is Tuesday, August 27, 2024. PCSVA utilizes the Google Workspace platform where teachers will instruct using both Google Meet and Google Classroom. Students enrolled in grades 9-12 also participate in courses through NC Schools of Science and Math. These courses begin on Tuesday, August 27 and courses for students who are enrolled at PCC will begin on Thursday, August 15, 2024. PCSVA courses are asynchronous on Wednesdays.
Our program is designed to focus on effectively providing a high-quality, virtual learning environment for all students and we ask that families commit to being enrolled for the entire school year. Student engagement is critical in the virtual learning environment; therefore, students will be expected to keep their cameras on during synchronous (live) instruction with their teachers and peers. Attendance will be taken based on this policy. There will also be opportunities daily for students to work asynchronously and having parent/family support is strongly encouraged.
While we are able to instruct our students virtually, all district and state-mandated assessments will need to be conducted in person onsite at our location. Assessment schedules and detailed instructions will be provided in advance of each district and state-mandated assessment for 6-12 students.
Students will be required to complete a virtual orientation to NCVPS and will be assigned a username and password to access the NCVPS dashboard.
