College and Career Newsletter Issue#1
Welcome to our newsletter, where we keep you informed about college and career opportunities for your Visalia Unified student(s). Research shows that waiting until high school to discuss these topics is often too late. By the end of elementary school and the beginning of middle school, Visalia Unified students are exploring different career paths and post-secondary options. Our goal is for this newsletter to serve as a tool to help you share valuable information with your children about their post-high school educational options.
Bulldog Bound Freshman Letters
All current freshmen have received a congratulatory letter that introduces them to the Bulldog Bound program. Visalia Unified School District students who sign up for Bulldog Bound and meet the minimum CSU requirements are guaranteed admission to Fresno State as early as 9th grade. Fresno State and VUSD provide students and their families with the resources, services and tools needed to meet these requirements. Regardless of your decision on which college to attend, this is an excellent opportunity to invest in your future. Bulldog Bound ensures that qualified students have a clear, tangible path to a college degree and by participating in this program, students also have access to:
● Pre-admission for 11th graders
● On-the-spot admissions for 12th graders
● Fresno State ID card, which will give students email and library access
● Help with career and academic major exploration
● Assistance with applications
● Early financial aid estimates
● Scholarship opportunities
● Campus life experience
● Summer student leadership opportunities
● Resources for parents/guardians

TCOE College Night offers high school students and their parents the chance to connect with representatives from different colleges, universities, and trade schools. It's a great opportunity to explore different campuses and educational programs. Students can gather important information on acceptance requirements, available degree programs, and other resources to help them prepare for the next steps in their future journey.
Transition to High School
Transitioning to high school is a big step, but having the right information can make the move to freshman year much smoother. That's why our school counselors recently presented the "High School 101" classroom lesson to all 9th-grade students. The lesson covered essential topics such as:
- How students earn credits toward graduation
- High School Graduation and A-G requirements
- Getting involved in campus activities
- Who and how to reach out to for support on campus
If you have any questions about this information, please contact your student's 9th-grade school counselor.
College Wednesdays
It’s never too early to start discussing college and career readiness. Our elementary and middle schools are dedicated to fostering a college-going mindset in students from a young age. This includes exploring pathways like certificates, associate’s degrees, bachelor’s degrees, and beyond.
College Wednesdays is one way school counselors are sharing information with students about various post-secondary options. This month, the featured institutions are:
