On Monday, 1st-4th grade had a special assembly with author Jolie Taylor (@endlessfairytales). She went to HAWTHORNE when she was in 4th grade, she live in Idaho Falls and she is now a published author! We had a great time hearing about her new book.

Last year we applied to participate in the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FF&V). This means that every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, students in 1st-6th grade will receive an extra healthy snack to eat sometime during the day. This week we had, carrots, pomegranates and plums - they were delicious!

We would love to have some volunteers come into classrooms and work with students on reading skills (phonics) and math skills. Just a few minutes a week can make a big difference! If you are interested in volunteering (or if you have a grandparent who would like to volunteer) please contact the office.

Due to changes in Idaho law, all parents/guardians are encouraged to log into Powerschool as soon as possible and update the following information.

The Idaho Legislature has created two new laws that impact your child’s experience at school. Both laws necessitate parents taking action by logging into the parent portal of Powerschool and providing consent for:

1. Idaho Falls District staff to provide health care for your child, including basic first aid (including band-aids), and
2. Use of a nickname that you would like your child to go by at school.

Please follow these steps to access this on Powerschool:

• Go to the D91 webpage

• Click on 'Quicklinks'

• Click on 'Powerschool'

• Log into Powerschool with username and password. If you do not have an account set up, please set one up first.

• Click on the little teeny arrow pointing to the right on the left hand side to bring up the navigation toolbar

• Scroll to the bottom and click on " Parental Medical Consent" and follow the prompts for permissions.

• Go back to the navigation menu and click on "Nickname Consent" and follow the prompts for permissions.

Our goal is to have all our students in line and ready to go in at 8:55 a.m.! We realize that sometimes things come up and you will be late. If you are late and you arrive later than 9:05, you will have to BRING YOUR STUDENT IN TO THE OFFICE AND SIGN THEM IN.

For the 2024-25 school year we will be EMPHASING ATTENDANCE by giving out awards for consistent attendance every trimester and by giving out prize-drawing tickets for students with great attendance. We will be fundraising and soliciting donations for our prizes, so if you or a business you know wants to donate, please let the office know.
