Community Update from Principal Griffin
Dear Erie High School families,
Thank you to all of our families that attended Back to School Night on Thursday. It was great to see and connect with so many members of our Erie High School community. Student-teacher-parent/guardian partnerships are essential to student success. I appreciate the commitment that our community consistently demonstrates to the success and wellbeing of our students.
We have now wrapped up our second week of school, and it is great to see our students and teachers settle into their groove for the year. I have consistently observed positive attendance, engagement, and dedication to learning in the classrooms I have visited. I am grateful to our students for their hard work and commitment to excellence, our teachers for their dedication to student learning and growth, and our families for your robust support. This school year is off to a great start!
This school year, I plan to use video recordings to provide community updates. Today, I am sharing my first weekly update video message, which is approximately six minutes in length and provides a message aligned with this weekly written update in our newsletter publication.
We have a lot to celebrate in our school everyday, and as a faculty, staff, and administration, we are dedicated to honoring and uplifting our students throughout the course of this year. By reading the newsletter on a weekly basis, you are making a strong commitment to keep abreast of all the happenings, events, and celebrations in our school community. Additionally, I encourage families to stay connected with our school in the following ways:
Maintain awareness of your child’s attendance and academic performance through Infinite Campus
Familiarize yourself with our school and district policies as well as Erie High School and SVVSD websites
Reach out to teachers, counselors, staff, and administrators with any questions or concerns you have
Attend and support our Erie High School students in athletic, artistic, and co-curricular pursuits
This overview of opportunities to stay connected with our school will positively impact our students as we all maintain a shared focus on their success throughout the school year.
This week, our fall sports programs began official competitions, and we are off to an outstanding start. The support of the Erie community is incredible for our students both in and out of the classroom. I look forward to seeing great turnouts in support of our students in the arts, athletics, and co-curricular endeavors. One quick, straightforward, and efficient way to support EHS athletics is to purchase a school athletic pass. To learn more about this option and/or to purchase an athletic pass for the 2024-2025 school year, please visit our newly updated athletic ticketing website. To keep up-to-date on the games and competitions for Erie High School athletics, please visit the calendar on our athletic website.
School Safety
Our highest operational priority is the safety and security of all students and staff in our school each day. We are fortunate to have an outstanding team of Campus Supervisors and robust support of the Erie Police Department through our School Resource Officers. This week, students reviewed safety & security protocols in their Advisory classes. Parent/family partnership is an important element of school safety. We encourage any students, staff, and families with concerns regarding safety to contact our school or a member of our school administrative team immediately, and Safe2Tell can serve as an important 24/7 resource that is available for anonymously reporting safety concerns.
Additionally, our parking lot and the traffic in and out of the school are important areas for our students, staff, and community to maintain a focus on safety. As a large, comprehensive high school, we have a busy parking lot with peak traffic in the approximately 15 minutes before and after school. As drivers in our community, please maintain patience and awareness in our parking lots, as we have a lot of pedestrian and car traffic. Additionally, please be mindful of our students traveling to and from school on foot, scooter, or bike, as you drive through the surrounding areas of Erie High School. It is a shared responsibility in our community to provide for the safety and wellbeing of all students - I am grateful for your partnership in supporting the wellbeing and success of our students.
I hope that you and your family have an outstanding weekend!
Sincerely,
Josh Griffin
Erie High School Principal
Code of Conduct (Guardian Signature Required!)
Thank you for your partnership and supporting the academic growth, safety, and well-being of our students. Every year, St. Vrain Valley Schools prints an up-to-date version of the Code of Conduct for students and families to review. This important document guides students and school staff on what expectations for school conduct and the consequences for behaviors that fall outside of those expectations. It is important that families review this information every year and acknowledge their receipt and understanding of this document.
To this end, please click here to access an electronic version of the Code of Conduct for the current school year. After you have reviewed this information, all families must sign an electronic acknowledgement that they have received, read, and understand the information contained, including the Annual Notification to Parents/Guardians; Behavioral Code of Conduct; Rights and Responsibilities of Students and Parents; and Board of Education Policies book. To sign your electronic acknowledgement, please follow the steps described here.
Again, thank you for your continued partnership and support. If you have any questions, please feel free to reach out to our administrative team.
Student attendance – more than a test score or any other data point – is one of the most accurate indicators of whether a student will graduate and find success after high school. It is critical for students to attend school daily in order to acquire the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to be college and career-ready. You can always check your student’s attendance in the Infinite Campus Parent Portal.
Please remember to always call in your student’s absences within 48 hours to 303-828-4213. You can also email attendance at ErieHS@svvsd.org.
If your student is a freshmen (or non-driving sophomore) we kindly ask that you check them in and out in person with the front office.
