Hello Smallville,

Thank you to all of the parents and families that visited with me during my first principal coffee of the school year. We also toured the campus by visiting our wonderful six grade classrooms. Families had the opportunity to view the hands on activities, student discussion, and our systems throughout the school. I look forward to hosting more of these events to showcase the amazing things happening on campus.

Next week is Homecoming! Let’s show our Cougar Pride and have some fun! Make sure to check out our dress up days on the flyer below. Monday is Purple Out, so let’s see which grade level has the most spirit! On Oct. 3rd we will have our Homecoming game vs. O’Henry, let’s show up and be loud for our Cougars.

As we venture into the fall season, make sure to take care of yourself. I always remind the students that self-care is important and to make sure to get rest and to tune in to their personal needs as individuals. So this weekend, make sure to take some time for yourself and reflect on all of the great things going on in your corner of the world.

We are thrilled to announce that last year’s Jazz Ensemble 1 and Symphonic Winds are huge WINNERS!

The 22-23 Jazz Ensemble I, under the direction of Tonia Mathews, was selected as one of two middle school winners for the Mark of Excellence National Jazz Honors. This is a national competition. https://www.foundationformusiceducation.org/.../2023.../

The 22-23 Symphonic Winds, under the direction of Alan DeVall, were selected as a winner for the Citation of Excellence. This is a competition for Texas non-varsity high school and middle school bands. https://www.foundationformusiceducation.org/.../2023.../

We are so grateful to be counted amongst the most outstanding band programs. CONGRATULATIONS TO ALL!

The PTA is offering the Reflections Program for CSMS students 6th - 8th grade.

This year's theme is I am hopeful because...

Reflections has been a staple arts program in many schools for over 50 years. Through the efforts of our Local PTAs, millions of students have found a creative outlet in the areas of:

Visual Arts

Dance ChoreographyFilm ProductionLiteratureMusic CompositionPhotography

Eligible students may enter any or all of the six art categories. Each entry must be the original work of one student and created specifically for the Reflections program based on the national theme and follow the program guidelines.

At least one person in your primary household must be a current PTA member.

Entries must be turned into the office by the end of the school day on Friday November 3rd.

Entries will be judged to advance to the next level of competition.

Plans include to announce the results for CSMS entries during the month of December.

For those of you considering transferring to Small for the 24-25 School year, know that the district is changing how transfers are done for next year.

We know that the transfer/application window will be November 8th - February 6th. Other than that, we are waiting for more information. Once we know the new process, we will update our website and setup tours and zoom events.

For our capstone project, we would like to start a program where bunnies visit different advisory/homerooms. We will also want to make a bunny pen for them to stay whenever the security fence is done. If you could donate anything, it will be much appreciated.

Did you know that school district policy on replacing furniture is done so only if said furniture is at least 30 years old? Clint Small is only 24 years old! The Visual Arts Department and the Clint Small Library are teaming up again with Snap! Raise to bolster how it is we offer art and research materials to the Small campus. Items we were able to purchase in years past include a silk-screen press, tablets for the art studios and technology to ease how instruction is facilitated in the classroom and the library. Mrs. Levine was able to purchase new tables two years ago and Mr. Tabares was able to do the same last year. Art isa program that thrives with replenishing "soft" materials like paint, ink, crayons, clay, glazes, and tons of paper. This year, Mr. Tabares would like to purchase additional printing presses to ease the lino-cut printing process (we currently own one). Last year many of our students waited until yearbooks were distributed in May to decide that they wanted to buy one. By then it is too late and we had lots of disappointed kids.

Yearbooks must be preordered.

They are expensive to print and although we do order extra's knowing people forget, we can not guarantee you a yearbook if you do not PRE-ORDER your yearbook.
