Shout Outs from Parents & Students
Please use THIS LINK to provide a shout-out to a staff member who deserves a pat on the back!
Ms. Standridge & Ms. M. Johnson: Thank you both so much for making my son's 7th and 8th grade years! You have no idea how much it helped him not only succeed academically but more importantly, feel more confident and happy.
Ms. Paul-Nally: Ms. Paul. We truly appreciate the unique way you teach our children. It’s not just about music; it’s a journey through discipline and friendship that you gracefully incorporate into each lesson. The Disney trip was a cherry on top, making the experience even more memorable. Thank you for all that you do!

Dear Parents/Community:
As your school principal, there is nothing I take more seriously than the safety of our students, our staff and our school as a whole. This week, as we head into spring break, I ask you to remain extra vigilant of behaviors that threaten the safety of our students, such as bringing knives and real/toy guns to school, fighting/aggression, and inappropriate posts online and in social media. Together with our parent team, our school team can ensure the safest learning environment for our students.
In an attempt to set expectations for student behavior and a learning environment this week that is free of disruption, our School Team will be doing some or all of the following:
- Review PBIS schoolwide expectations for behavior with students.
- Share with students that any student who sees or hears something that makes them feel unsafe should tell a trusted adult.
- Complete a schoolwide monitoring and supervision review.
- Require hall passes for all students – no exceptions.
- Monitor students in transition and students in hallways by ALL teachers and staff in building.
- No student cell phone use during class.
- Host lunch in classrooms to increase supervision, if needed.
- Search backpacks, desks, lockers, personal effects due to any reasonable suspicion.
- Staggered release and/or transitions to reduce large grouping of students
In an attempt to set expectations for student behavior and a learning environment this week that is free of disruption, we need our Parent Team to do the following:
- Closely monitor and review your student’s online and social media posts.
- Every morning this week, check your student’s backpack for foods, dangerous items, etc. before they leave for school.
- Ensure that all types of weapons maintained in the home (all types of knives, airsoft guns, toy guns, real guns, etc.) are secured/locked in a safe place in home and not accessible to your student(s).
- Seek help from school if your student is talking about violence, is angry or making any type of threat towards self or others. Please contact your school’s counselor, administrator, or other trusted adult who can connect you with resources or help needed.
- If you become aware of any information that poses a threat to student, staff or school safety, call 911 if it’s an emergency or report to our anonymous FCS Tip Line at the following link: https://www.fultonschools.org/fcstipline.
I want to be clear in communicating any student behavior that leads to a threat in safety and/or a school disruption will result in the most severe discipline and police intervention available. I will not allow any student(s) to compromise the positive learning environment and safety for our students here at Taylor Road Middle School.
The responsibility for keeping our students, staff and schools safe is a top priority for ALL of us. Thank you for supporting Taylor Road Middle School and for partnering with us to ensure Students First, Safety First!
Kelly Parker
Principal, Taylor Road Middle School
On the day we return from Spring Break, Monday, April 8, a total solar eclipse will cross North America, passing over Mexico, the United States, and Canada. A total solar eclipse happens when the Moon passes between the Sun and Earth, completely blocking the face of the Sun. The sky will darken as if it were dawn or dusk. This is an exciting and significant event which comes with safety concerns.
In the Atlanta area, we will experience an 80% partial solar eclipse. The partial eclipse will begin at 1:08 p.m., hit maximum at 3:04 p.m., and end at approximately 4:21 p.m. It is essential that all students, parents, and staff understand the safety concerns connected with this exciting event.
The district is planning on providing enough protective sunglasses for all students and staff members. After speaking with district leadership, and in the interest of protecting eyes, there will be no school-wide plan for outdoor viewing of this event - the day will be classes as usual. Mr. Parker has asked the PE/health staff to plan indoor activities that afternoon.
The sunglasses and directions for their use will be provided for student/staff use during dismissal.
If you are interested in having your student witness this event, you may keep them at home or check them out of school before noon. It will be considered an excused absence.
Thanks for supporting TRMS!

Reminders for Students
Students should not spray perfume/cologne/body spray in the hallways including at their lockers. These activities can trigger medical issues for other students and staff members.
Students should not share food. It is against board policy for students to exchange unpackaged/unwrapped food. We send out reminders around holidays, but the rule applies all year.
PTA Needs YOU!
As we gear up for the 2024-2025 school year, we are excited to announce that nominations are now open for key leadership positions within our Parent-Teacher Association (PTA). We are looking for dedicated individuals to step into the roles of Co-President, Secretary, and Vice President of Communications.
These positions are crucial in shaping the direction of our PTA and making a positive impact on our school community. If you are passionate about supporting our students and enhancing their educational experience, we encourage you to consider running for one of these roles.
Nominations will be accepted through the end of March, with voting set to take place at our last PTA meeting of the year on April 10th. To nominate yourself or someone else, please send your submissions to trmsptapresident@gmail.com. Your involvement is vital to the success of our PTA, and we look forward to working together to make a difference at Taylor Road Middle School.
FCS Parent Survey Communication
Subject: School Nutrition Evaluation Survey
Dear Parents and Guardians,
The Department of Program Evaluation is currently evaluating the FCS School Nutrition Program. As part of this evaluation, we are surveying students in 3rd – 12th grades about their experiences, preferences, and opinions about school nutrition.
FCS has contracted with Gibson Consulting to evaluate this program and conduct the survey. All survey information is anonymous and will be used to guide decision-making to improve the FCS School Nutrition Program.
The survey will open on March 25th and will take no more than 10 minutes to complete. As a parent or guardian, you have the right to view the survey questions in advance. Please contact your student’s principal if you have any questions or concerns. Please get in touch with your child’s principal if you wish to view the survey questions.
Please note that the district is also conducting a survey on school security at the same time. Thus, if you have a student in a different school, they may take that survey instead. The district used random selection to assign each school only one survey for their students to take to reduce the number of surveys we ask of students.
Thank you.

Meet Our Summit Counselor
Greetings, TRMS Community!
I would like to introduce myself as your School-Based Mental Health Therapist Nehemiah McClendon, M. ED, NCC, LAPC
I am here at your service to help your child with navigating the challenges of academic life while also addressing personal emotional needs can be overwhelming. I am returning for my second year here at TRMS and am thrilled to continue to do great and impactful work with our students. During my tenor at TRMS I have collaboratively worked with administration and teachers to provide individual, group and famly services for TRMS community.
As a therapist I Can Help:
🌟 Individualized Support: I recognize that every student is unique. With one-on-one sessions tailored to each student's personal experiences, allowing for a deep exploration of thoughts and feelings.
🌟 Anxiety and Stress Management: From exam jitters to social pressures, anxiety can take a toll on a student's well-being. I’m working to equip students with practical strategies to manage anxiety and stress effectively.
🌟 Depression Coping Skills: Depression can cast a shadow over even the brightest moments. Our therapist provides tools and techniques to help students regain a sense of control, build resilience, and find joy in their daily lives.
🌟 Emotional Awareness: Our therapist guides students in understanding their emotions, helping them to recognize triggers and respond to challenging situations in healthy ways.
🌟 Supportive Environment: Sometimes, all it takes is a listening ear. Therapy can create a judgment-free space where students can express themselves openly and honestly.
Mental health matters. I believe that seeking support is a sign of strength, and I’m here to help break down stigmas associated with mental health challenges. By providing an accessible platform for students to engage in conversations about their well-being, we aim to create a culture of acceptance, empathy, and understanding.
How to Get Started:
Speak to Your Child: Initiate a conversation with your child about their feelings and emotions. Let them know that our therapist is here to provide guidance and support.
