News&Notes from the Superintendent

This week at SBRSD!
“Every interaction matters because every interaction could be the one they talk about for the rest of their lives." ~ Dr. Joe Sanfelippo
I love this quote from our opening day guest speaker, as it reminds us all of the gift we get each day, which is the opportunity to make a difference in a child's life that may stay with them forever. It is both an incredible responsibility and an honor that we never take for granted.
It has been a whirlwind of activity around the District as the 2024 - 2025 school year has gotten underway, with just as much going on after school, like the fall season teams in action and auditions for upcoming theater productions in full swing! We look forward to welcoming families to our campuses any time to see our awesome students in their elements and to cheer them on alongside us!
Please find below updates & events happening in our District ~
The Budget & Other School Business
Believe it or not, my fabulous assistant, Ms. Castellano, put the FY26 Budget Meeting Calendar on my desk today, as a reminder to update it for the year as the first meetings get underway in November!
Stay tuned!
Here are some other important items to highlight:
We have two new Task Force Initiatives moving forward, and the facilitators will be scheduling their first meetings within the next few weeks! Good news - there is still time to lend your voice to either one!
- We are hoping to have volunteers join us on a Task Force to discuss the development of a cell phone policy for SBRSD.
- A second Task Force is forming to discuss strengthening attendance.
If you are interested in participating on either one of these Task Force Teams please send my Executive Assistant, Michelle Castellano, at mcastellano@sbrsd.org, a message expressing which group you would like to join. We thank you in advance for your interest!
- As a result of the most recent Superintendent's Regional Roundtable meeting, we will be hosting a Candidate Forum for all parties running for a seat on the SBRSD School Committee this November. This meet - and - greet forum will be held on Thursday, October 17th at 7:00 pm in the TACPAC.
- I am also thinking about hosting the first Community Conversation with the Superintendent of the school year, and would like to hear from you! What are the topics of interest that you would like to discuss? Please send any ideas to mcastellano@sbrsd.org!

Student Voice
Already, I have heard from so many students, bursting with excitement, about all the things happening here at school! They can't wait to tell me about their classes, what their favorite lunch is, what they have going on outside of school, and they especially want to make sure I am going to be at their next game if possible! It's awesome!
Very soon the Superintendent's Advisory Councils will be kicking off for the school year, and I can't wait to see what this year brings!

Transcend Grant Initiative
The Core/Implementation Team is diving in to building out our BerkStudio model, and has had several meetings with our coaches over the last week. We plan to continue the structure of having a Core/Implementation Team, a Design Team, and a Community Team model.
As a result, we will host our first Community Team meeting of the year on Tuesday, October 8th, from 5:00 pm to 6:30 pm - more details to follow!
We encourage other members of our school community to join us in this work and share their thoughts and expertise as we continue our journey forward!
