Longhorn Sports Report

The Cedar Hill High School Football Team will kick off the 2024 season at 7 p.m. on Friday, August 30 at Midlothian.

It will be the Longhorns' first game against the Panthers since 2015, when Joey McGuire was Cedar Hill's head coach.

Cedar Hill second-year head coach Nick Ward and assistant head coach Brice Musgrove were on the Midlothian staff in 2022 when the Panthers went 12-1.

The Cedar Hill High School Volleyball Team won 12 consecutive sets in winning the South Oak Cliff Tournament on Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Longhorns (7-1) defeated Richardson Berkner, 2-0, in the Championship Match, after earning a 2-0 semifinal win over Fort Worth Dunbar.

The Lady Longhorns will visit Little Elm (0-2) on Tuesday and compete at the San Angelo Tournament, Thursday through Saturday.

The Cedar Hill High School Cross Country Team opened the 2024 season at Kennedale last Friday. Here's a photo gallery from the meet.

Senior Messiyah Forte finished 14th out of 131 competitors with a time of 17:37.82, and sophomore Kingston Jackson was 28th (18:10.51). Junior Zachary Carroll (18:21) and senior Elgrie Hurd (18:31.65) placed 35th and 39th, respectively.

The Cedar Hill Boys finished sixth out of 18 schools.

Junior Chloe Wallace finished 43 of 59 competitors in 25:01.64, while sophomore Alexzandria Moore was 53rd (27:06.76).

The Longhorns will compete at the Hillsboro Invitational on Friday.

The Cedar Hill High School Tennis Team defeated Dallas Skyline, 17-1-1, last Thursday in both teams' District 6A-11 Opener in Cedar Hill.

The Longhorns (1-0) will host Lancaster on Tuesday.

Cedar Hill High School senior third baseman/right-handed pitcher Reggie Samuel was one of 44 high school players selected to play in the Hank Aaron Invitational last month at Truist Park in Atlanta (Home of the four-time World Series Champion Atlanta Braves).

University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center Police Officer Kiya Garza, a 2016 Cedar Hill High School Graduate, was a key leader for the Lady Longhorns Volleyball Team from 2012-2015. During her senior year, Cedar Hill defeated Mansfield in volleyball -- a feat that wasn't duplicated until last season. The Lady Longhorns also reached the playoffs during Garza's junior year.

Garza was named captain of the Mississippi Valley State University (MVSU) Volleyball Team, which competes in the NCAA Division I Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC). Garza earned a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice at MVSU.

Cedar Hill High School Class of 1960 Graduate Jerry West was a three-year letterman for the Longhorns from 1957-1960. He was a sophomore when Cedar Hill changed its mascot from Dogie to Longhorn.

West is also an avid collector of Roy Rogers and Western film and music memorabilia.
