All Pro Dad Breakfast - March 13th
Please join us at the Maple Dale Elementary All Pro Dads breakfast on Wednesday March 13th from 8-9am in the school cafeteria. This free monthly breakfast is sponsored by fathers, Chick-fil-A, and the PTO.
The meeting theme is perseverance. Everyone is going to face challenges in their life, even our kids. Perseverance is never giving up. It's not being stopped by a bad outcome or difficult task, but always moving forward. Teaching our children to be perseverant, even at a young age, will help them grow into being successful adults.
If attending, please RSVP by Sunday March 10th via the link below so the correct amount of food is ordered.

Reminders- please do not walk your child to their classroom, please park down at the district offices to free parking spaces for staff members, and please be aware that a school delay or closure cancels the breakfast.

Flying Pig Race Info (Team Maple Dale)
Earlier this week during lunch, the flying pig mascot visited with the kids at Maple Dale. The kids have the opportunity to participate with the Flying Pig event by signing up for a Maple Dale team! All kids signed up with Maple Dale will receive a team t-shirt for the event if registered by the deadline of March 19th, 2019. Parents are responsible for their own transportation to/from event. I know Kindergartners do not participate in Milers, but if they would like to run they are more than welcome - provided parents register and provide transportation to/from the event.
The two events we expect enthusiastic participation in and allow you to enroll on the Maple Dale team are:
- Kid's Marathon 26th Mile (for kids who are close to doing a full marathon due to participating in Milers for the fall and/or spring sessions): Please email Jessica Allison at jessie0603@yahoo.com to ask if your child is close to the 26 mile mark. Even if your child is not close to the 26th mile, it's fine if they are comfortable running a mile and they will receive a medal at the end of completing the one mile run. (Date: 5/4 @ 12 pm)
- Flying Pig 5K (Date: 5/4 @ 10 am)
The link to sign-up for this event is below:

Please register for an account with raceroster.com, and after creating the account, sign in and click on the "Register" link on the left hand side of the page. In the section where it asks about Relay Teams | Youth Program Groups, please select the option "Yes, I am participating on one of the above Teams/Groups". Two drop-down menus will appear after making that selection. Please select "Youth Programs" and then select "Maple Dale Elementary" from the two drop down menus that appear.
Thank you! Please direct all questions to Jessica Allison at jessie0603@yahoo.com.
Hope to see you at the event!

ANNOUNCEMENT OF SPRING OPTIONAL TESTING FOR IDENTIFICATION OF GIFTED STUDENTS
Although your child may or may not have taken the CogAT in December, you may request that your child be tested on the Otis-Lennon School Ability Test (OLSAT). If you wish to have your child participate in this round of testing, all requests must be made through the below online link by March 15, 2019. In order to decrease disruption to your child's instruction, this testing opportunity will take place prior to the start of the school day. We have scheduled this 45-50 minute testing session to be administered from 8:00 to 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, March 28, 2019, at (School Name).
Please note it is the parents' responsibility to provide transportation the morning of testing to your child’s building. Additionally, know that Sycamore cannot use kindergarten or first grade scores for gifted placement.
Summer Solutions
PBIS and Social Emotional Learning
PBIS Is a framework to help address social-emotional learning in schools. In order to better understand the "why" of incorporating PBIS at Maple Dale as well as Sycamore Schools, there are two articles linked. The first article shares an overview of social-emotional learning and also links to other articles about social-emotional learning. The second article is longer but is equally important as it discusses the nine competencies for teaching empathy. As educators and parents ourselves, we are so appreciative of our partnerships with our Maple Dale parents and believe this article is powerful from both an educator's and a parent's perspective. Thank you for all you do to support your child and Maple Dale.
